A furry silver friend….

Afternoon everyone….

So who doesn’t like little furry friends on their silver coins. Well the Perth Mint loves to make coins with furry and feathered friends. They have so many series with this theme, such as the kookaburra, the lunar series, swan, stock horse, wedged tail eagle and this one the koala.

The Australian Silver Koala is one of the most prominent coins from the Perth Mint of Australia. Introduced in 2007, the Silver Koala stands with the Silver Kookaburra and newer Silver Kangaroo as the primary investment-grade silver coins offered by the mint on an annual basis.

Each of the 2012 1 oz Australian Silver Koala Coins in this product listing comes to you with a protective capsule and is available as such individually. This coin is in Brilliant Uncirculated condition and comes from a year of release that featured a total mintage of 388,046 coins. The 2012 coin was down significantly from the previous year in this series.

From 2007 to 2015, the Perth Mint issued the Silver Koala coins with an unlimited mintage figure. The mintage in 2012 was roughly one-third that of the previous issue in 2011 which had a total of more than 910,000 coins.

The Australian Silver Koala coin is like the Silver Kookaburra in that it uses a new depiction of the koala each year. The Perth Mint features this native marsupial species in a different relief each year, sometimes depicting just one koala and sometimes using a family unit.

On the reverse of the 2012 1 oz Australian Silver Koala Coin, you’ll find a single koala lying along the branch of a tree taking a nap. The koala is one of the least active species in the world, napping for as much as 20 hours in a year. Engravings denote the name of the collection, along with the coin’s year of issue, weight, purity, and metal content.

The obverse of 2012 Australian Silver Koalas features the right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. The Queen’s right-profile portrait is the fourth-generation design and was created in 1998 by Ian Rank-Broadley for the Royal Mint of England.

Perth Mint is located in Perth, Western Australia. Founded in 1899 as the third and final Royal Mint facility on the content, today Perth Mint is owned by the state of Western Australia.
