A sleeper coin…..

Afternoon everyone …..

Today I’m going to share with you a coin that is a sleeper coin. By sleeper I mean that most collectors overlook it at first then realize they need it for a registry set.

Most hardcore collectors pick a single coin style and their goal is to have the nicest examples of that coin. While I’m not of this mind set, if you know anything about PCGS or NGC grading services. They both have registry set libraries.

Lincoln cents are the most collected coin in the entire world. Morgan silver dollars are second. But in the top ten is the Roosevelt dime. Not my cup of tea, but it pertains to this coin.

In 2015 the West Point Mint released a special three coin set for the March of Dimes. These are proof struck beautiful coins. The limited mintage of these had a maximum of 75,000 sets.

Well….

They didn’t sell so well at the time of release, and only 8,000 sets were produced. Of those 8,000 coins between PCGS and NGC there is currently a total population of 104 of this grade.

There are over 74,000 Roosevelt dime registry sets between the two companies. Meaning there is a demand for this coin, and the reverse proof version of this dime which is also part of the set.

There is a to of graded SP69 on the market available and even those are being scouted up frequently. But the SP70 DCAM ones are going for a pretty penny.

This is why it’s a sleeper coin….

Every once in a while I come across these types of coins. Sometimes you miss, and sometimes you hit a grand slam. Even when you miss you rarely ever lose money because the coin will still sell for at least what you bought it for if you shop around.

I paid $165 for the three coin set all graded SP70. This coin that I’m sharing with you today has sold auction sales of that price for just this coin alone. The only SP70 reverse proof version sold at auction was from four months ago, which sold for $239. There are no current auctions that I could find for a reverse proof SP70 that I could find.

Here is the NGC graded 2015W March of Dimes Roosevelt dime graded SP70 DCAM. It is so mirrored and frosty.

By the way these are silver as well. When I come across the reverse proof one I will post it.

What a beautiful coin and with that low of a population it is going to be a great investment. Nice pickup!

As far as numismatics are concrned, PF 70, you sure don't settle for anything that's not from the top shelf. Shiny!

It should always be the intention of appreciating in value. The nicer the coin the better the chance.

The FDR dime is just too familiar to me, so I find it boring. That said, if it's silver and a collectable, that sounds good to me!
