A Trio Of Gorgeous Ladies….

avatar

Afternoon everyone ….

I planned on doing this post yesterday for a Morgan Monday. But forgot it lined up with Leo Power Up Day.

So now you get it on Tuesday instead. There goes the Monday Morgan theme…..

As I digress…

I’ve been going through my graded Morgan collection making sure that they are all listed on my registry set with PCGS. Well good thing that I did, because in this box alone there were three coins not in there.

I am going to share them with you today.

They are all graded MS65 Morgan Silver Dollars from PCGS. They are all struck at the San Francisco Mint. All three are in old style PCGS green holders. Two of those are generation one holders known as “rattler holders”, the other is a second generation green holder. The two in the “rattler holders” are also CAC certified as well.

A quick info for those who don’t know. The first generation holders are known for a very high percentage rate to upgrade if sent back in for grading. The second generation is as well but the rate is not quite as high. When PCGS first started they were ultra strict with grades. That is why so many increase in grade if sent back in.

As for the CAC….

This is an independent third party company. The CAC stands for Certified Acceptance Corporation. They are not a grading company. What they do is have a panel of graders access the given grade of the coin that has been graded. If they agree, then it gets a green sticker. If they think it is under graded it gets a gold sticker. If it doesn’t meet the grade on the slab in their opinion then it gets no sticker.

While I do send coins out for grading. I would never spend the money on sending coins to CAC. The price is stupid and while coins with the sticker fetch more money. It does not in my opinion equal the money spent.

I bought these coins as you see them.

They are all gorgeous. Enjoy the show.

What even funnier. Is that about 4 years ago I sent a CAC graded Morgan that was an MS64 back for a regrade. It came back an MS66+. 😲
