A vintage gem….

Afternoon everyone ….

Today is another installment of what I picked up while out at the silvergoldstackers meet up in Las Vegas. This round was also acquired from Archangel Coins.

I’ve had this round on my radar for awhile now, but they always seem to go for more than I’m willing to pay at auction.

It’s a 1973 Letcher Mint round. There are two versions of this round. Both have the eagle on the obverse. But there are two different reverses. The one that I like which is the one that I found is the silver trade unit reverse. The other reverse has writing on it reading minted by the Letcher Mint 1973.

Here is a brief description of the round….

Obverse: The central image is a stylized heraldic eagle of the same design as Letcher Mint in 1973. The content of "ONE TROY OUNCE" is inscribed in a box below the eagle.

Reverse: The central feature on the reverse is the scales, a common motif found on many trade unit silver rounds. The content "ONE TROY OUNCE" is inscribed above the scales and the weight of "31.1 GRAMS" is inscribed immediately below that. The mint mark of "AS & M Co." can be found on either side of the central image Directly below the scales is the purity of ".999 FINE SILVER". The phrase "SILVER TRADE UNIT" can be found on the outer circle below the inscription containing the purity.

Now for the round….

@trumpman should like this round. Since the eagle design is very close to all those German coins he buys….🤣

That is pretty cool. The eagle feels like a really basic design compared to some of the other coins I have seen. It reminds me a lot of the original quarter.

Nice one! I had to laugh about the last comment because I have been seeing that eagle on so many 1 euro coins (and some 2 euro ones) lately .. it's as if there are more German euro coins in circulation here than Spanish ones.

Nice! They even have a cool eagle on the back! I'm not sure if I have anything from Letcher, very cool!

I myself am very happy to see such special designs of silvers and I always like the eagle design the most.
