First Release For Five Ounce Friday....

(Edited)

Morning everyone....

What a fantastic day it is here in the northeast. It’s already 68 degrees out, very sunny and warm. We are suppose to reach the mid 70’s today. Bring on the warm weather.

We saw more snow this year then we had in over a decade. My area snow total was 136” for the season. Compared to just 44 the previous year. That’s a huge difference.

As I digress.....

I am going to do a post on one of the tags I started over two years ago. Recently I haven’t been posting with many of my tags, but I’m trying to fix that. The tag is #fiveouncefriday, and is a very easy tag to comply with.

Just grab five ounces of your shiny, snap a few pictures of it tell us a little about them. What they are, where you bought them or how you obtained them, maybe you have a story behind them. Most people show silver, but if you are a baller and want show off five ounces of gold instead. Go for it....

Up until the Queen’s Beast series from the Royal Mint, this was my favorite series to collect. Since the Queen’s Beast series has ended I guess this is now my favorite series.

The obverse changes every year, but always has elephants as the focus. The designs are outstanding and the detail is flawless. The coins are struck by the Bavarian Mint in Germany.

The African Wildlife Series Somalia Silver Elephant coin it features one of the most diverse lineups of silver coins in its entire production history. Since its 2004 debut for Somalia, these coins have only grown in popularity. For the first year the Somalia Silver Elephant Coin was minted in several sizes. The introduction of fractional silver coins, plus a two ounce, five ounce, ten ounce and kilo were produced. This coin was previously only done in the one ounce size.

Coin Specs:

This is the 14th annual issue of Silver Elephant coin series.
Contains 5 Troy oz of .9999 pure silver in BU condition.
Face value of 500 Shillings issued for Somalia.
Obverse features the all-new 2017 African Elephant design.
Reverse includes the coat of arms for Somalia.
I’m not 100% sure but I believe there were only 500 of the five and ten ounce produced.

So today I am sharing the very first five ounce Somalia Elephant coin for my #fiveouncefriday. These coins carry a fairly high premium. I just checked the 2021 version price and they are charged $350 or more for them.

Here is my 2017 five oz silver Somalia Elephant coin....

The African Wildlife Series Somalia Silver Elephant coin... very pretty! Especially when they are five ounces.
I think that five ounces are ideal! I just can't afford it, hehehe!
