Some snow and some silver….

Afternoon everyone….

Well it’s been a week of snowstorms here in the northeast. Monday night into Tuesday afternoon the skies graced us with fourteen inches of wet heavy snow. Of course the weather people predicted much less snow than we actually got.

So….

The roads completely sucked!!!! They had only salted the roads early in the night. Which doesn’t do a dam thing once there’s a foot of snow on it. There were accidents everywhere and for a four hour time frame they had a ban on commercial trucks on the highways.

Unfortunately, I had to be on a job to get it ready for the electricians on Wednesday so I couldn’t just stay home and work in the shop. I passed numerous accidents and on the other side of the highway it was closed due to three separate tractor trailer accidents. At least it wasn’t on my side.

By the time I got back home the stuff was ridiculously heavy and the top had iced up making it a joy to shovel.

Well this morning I woke up to an additional four inches of snow. I was meeting a friend at the gym at 6:00 so the shoveling had to wait. I used the remote start on my truck, melted my windshield and off I went. I took some pictures that I’ll share at the end of this post.

On a different note….

I picked up a vintage silver round on an auction last week. I forgot which day it showed up, but that’s irrelevant. It’s a California Crown Mint round.

Here is some information on the California Crown Mint:
California Crown Mint was a silver refiner based in Woodland Hills, California. They were in business under that name from 1980 to 1983. Sometime in 1984, they changed their name to Crown Mint and continued production up through 1991. Throughout the life of the company they marked their products in several different ways. Some of the bars are simply marked a crown, while other items are marked with "CCM", others still are marked with "CM@[YY]" where [YY] is the two digit year. A small number of items are marked with a cursive script "cm".

While they are best known for their KitKat-style silver bars and collectible bars, they did produce several 1 Oz rounds as well. Many of the rounds commemorate holidays, professions, or animals and are designed to be engraved on the reverse. In 1985 they produced a series of 5 rounds under the title of "Crown Impressions". This series depicted mythical creatures such as the Pegasus. They produced two commercial style bullion rounds, one containing a crown on the obverse and the other depicting a flying eagle with a flag. The second design was also reproduced in a 1 Oz bar form. A few other commemorative rounds were also minted during the life of the company. All of their products were minted with .999 Fine Silver.

They didn’t produce many of these rounds, so they are a little harder to find. Plus it was a fairly small operation. Most of their products were extruded bars.

Now for the snow pics….

If only snow could just land on grass and trees!!!!

Excessive snow can be a big problem and create many accidents. It doesn't snow here but it did when I was going to see a grandfather who lived in the south of my country. Many times we had to wait because the storm was quite strong.

That coin looks spectacular. The good thing is that you have acquired one that is very well preserved.

Oh my goodness! I don't think I can live in a place with snow... that's only me. But I think it is pretty!!!
Good addition to your vintage silver rounds, @silverd510 . Yes they are small. All the more reason to buy them.
