The zoo, great food and one hell of a bakery….
Afternoon everyone…..
So yesterday was our last day of vacation at Diamond Beach in Wildwood Crest. I didn’t post yesterday we had a pretty busy day and night.
I started the morning taking Peanut (the cutest dog in the world) for her morning walk. After feeding her I had just enough time to walk over to one of the best bakeries I’ve ever been to and I’ve been to too many to count at my age.
The bakery is named Britton’s Gourmet Bakery. They have been in business in Wildwood Crest since 1965, they are still family owned and are only open Wednesday through Monday from 6:30am till 12:00pm. And trust me if you aren’t there before 8:00am you will miss out on several items that sell out quickly.

They have one numerous awards for their apple fritters. If you look at their sign it actually says World Famous Apple Fritters on it. We alway go there twice when we stay, and over the years have tried just about everything they make. Everything has been excellent.
We decided to hit the Cape May Zoo for our last day of vacation. It is a 100% free zoo, they accept donations at the parking lot gate (which is also free) and at the main entrance. This zoo is extremely well maintained and has a nice compliment of animals. If you are ever in the area please don’t pass up the chance to see it.
Since our last visit to the zoo the capybaras have had some babies. There are eight total offspring, from two different females. One had a litter of five babies in November and the other had three babies in March.
Here they are:

Here are a few other animals we saw on our journey through the zoo.

After the zoo, we went back to the house to take showers before heading out to dinner. We split up for dinner tonight, because Jennifer’s mom and step dad made reservations at a seafood restaurant. Jennifer is highly allergic to seafood so we made reservations at an Italian restaurant instead.
This is another place we frequent when visiting the area. The name of the restaurant is Little Italy. They have been a staple of Wildwood since 1996. They are family owned and are always packed, if you don’t make a reservation you could be waiting close to an hour for a table.
I will not say they are the best Italian food, but they are extremely good and they are extremely consistent with their food. They are well above average and the prices are reasonable for the area. I’d give them a solid 8 out of 10 stars. Which is very good considering how picky I am about food, being a culinary graduate.
I ordered veal marsala, veal is a go to for me at Italian restaurants. But I prefer Osso Bucco over any other dish. Most places don’t offer it because of how time consuming and expensive veal shanks are. Jennifer ordered a chicken parmigiana with ziti. This is one of her go to items as well. They make their own sauce fresh daily. It’s bright red and is very flavorful.

Dinner was fantastic. We did not do dessert, we had plans to go for homemade ice cream on our way back to the house. But Mother Nature had different plans. The skies opened up making that not in our plans.
We headed back to the house awaiting the Little League World Series game coming on at 7:00pm. My girlfriend’s cousin is on the Bayonne New Jersey team that is currently in Williamsport Pennsylvania playing for the championship. His name is Chase and he was the starting pitcher in last nights game in which they won 3-1 against West Chester Pennsylvania. They won their first game as well on Wednesday against Bridgewater Massachusetts 2-1.
They are still in the winners bracket of a double elimination tournament. Their next game is against Davenport Iowa on Sunday at 1:00pm EST. Wish them luck.
It’s the first time Bayonne New Jersey has ever been in the Little League World Series.
That’s it for today, I have tons of laundry to do and need to make a work schedule for this week as well.
Up here in Vancouver, the annual PNE fair has opened up today. Regular gate entrance admission price $25CAD, $20 purchased in advance. I used to have a summer job at this fair during my high school days.
No zoo feature, but plenty of agricultural livestock featured throughout the grounds for the next 1o days here.
