1908 Great Britain Gold Sovereign Edward VII

I added a 1908 British Sovereign to my collection. There are plenty of Sovereigns online, but holding one in person hits different. It’s small, heavier than it looks, and it has that “real history” feel you can’t fake.

This one isn’t mint or flashy. It’s the usual stuff you’d expect from a coin that’s been around for more than a century. But that’s exactly why I wanted it. I like the ones that look like they actually lived a life.

The Edward VII portrait has this no‑nonsense look to it, like he didn’t have time for anyone’s drama.

And the St. George design on the back is just classic. It’s one of those designs that never gets old, no matter how many times you see it.

What I like most is the feeling of connection. This thing existed before the big wars, before technology took over, before life looked anything like it does now. And now it’s sitting in my hand. That’s wild when you stop and think about it.

I didn’t buy it to flip it as some investment. I bought it because it feels good to own something with real weight and real history. Something that lasts.

That’s pretty much it. Just a solid coin. I’m glad I picked up.

I have a Victorian era one. What i love about these is that you dont really pay a premium for it being an antique...or at least you didnt when i bought mine a while back.

You can view it HERE.
You are right, they did not carry premiums so much when I bought mine. So sad that it is not the case anymore.
This is the lowest price average circulated from Apmex

From time to time though it's been quite a while since I bought any gold. It's just so expensive. I only have a few pieces of gold as it is.

That price still compares favorably to modern mainstream 1/4 oz gold bullion coins.

They are such pretty coins, I love them! So much history right there in your hands, they are a great way to collect gold. At least were when they were more affordable! lol

Yeah, !LOL
But I continue to buy here and there, @thebighigg!
I wish I had bought more of the European coins before; they were low-priced. Not anymore!

Did you know sis, that these were sewn into the lining of the para troopers so that should they need to, they could retrieve one and buy supplies and whatnot? Also, they fit inside of hollow walking canes so that folks could travel with the gold and it was undetected. Much safer that way back in the day. Nowadays, it wouldn't be due to all the security that you have to pass through.

Very nice-we have a few of these although not sure of all of the dates. Very nice and a great thing to have in your stash, just in case you needed to cash it in for any reason.

Much love to you sis! 🤗😘😍🌹 !LADY !HOPE !PIMP !INDEED

I've heard about that, sis! These days, you can legally travel in and out of the country with less than $10,000 without declaring it, but you have to be ready to show documentation of ownership of the gold. That's 1 oz and fractional ounces of gold.
Much !LUV always, sis 🤗😘😍

Absolutely, @silvertop! Gold and silver have been used as money for thousands of years, with standardized gold and silver coinage emerging around 600–700 BC in Lydia (modern-day Turkey). Silver was used as a monetary standard by Sumerians as early as 2,700 BC, while Egyptians used gold-bearing shekels around 1500 BC. They have served as trusted currency and safe-haven assets for roughly 2,500 to 5,000 years. Source: Google AI Overview

My two gold sovereigns were pasted down from my great grand father, an 1892 Victoria and a 1911 George V. Edward VII should fit in between. You know me, I had to get a pair of silver crowns to go with these gold sovereigns. I recall you have a Silver crown somewhere in your stack.
History in your hands.

Always, with Love 🤗🌺❤️

Your loss that you didn't buy the gold since you had the chance to get it. Was there a reason, @youloseagain?
