Established in 1979, The Sunshine Minting is a renowned business in North America. Idaho, which has an abundance of silver, is home to the mint. The company's areas of expertise include processing other precious metals and manufacturing gold, silver, and round bars. It produces silver bullion for the most part. Sunshine is well-known across the world for being the United States Mint's and other foreign governmental and private mints' sole provider of blank silver coins.

The business also offers personalized minting services and vault storage services. Since its founding in 1979 in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, Sunshine Minting Inc. (SMI) has earned a stellar reputation for producing goods of the highest caliber.

The company's main mint is in Idaho, but in addition, it launched two new sites in Shanghai, China in 2011 and Las Vegas, Nevada in 2013.

The California Precious Metals and Coin Association was founded in 1985 and went out of business in 2001. To promote its services, it commissioned a silver round in 1986. Sunshine Minting Corporation minted the silver round.

Obverse: A prospector holding a pickaxe and a gold pan is the main picture on the obverse. The year "1986" is written in the outside circle. There are no additional inscriptions on the reverse.

Reverse: A silver bar with a Morgan dollar pattern is shown on the reverse. The phrase "CALIFORNIA COIN & PRECIOUS METALS ASSOCIATION" appears beneath the coin. The weight of "ONE TROY OUNCE" is located on the right, while the composition of "999+ FINE SILVER" is etched on the left.

Beneath the image of the silver bar, at the bottom, are the mint mark initials "SMC".
