2024 Somalia Silver Elephant Coin

Some coins are late, such as the 2023 Libertad (I think it was in purpose), and some coins are out so early, like this one. I bought this coin in October 2023.

2024 Somalia Silver Elephant Coin

The African Elephant coins from the African Wildlife Series, originally released in 1999 as the Zambia Elephant, have been minted yearly on behalf of Somalia since 2004. Both gold and silver coins are available in this series; the silver pieces are mostly provided in weights of 1 oz and larger, with a 1 kilo silver coin serving as the culmination.

The 2024 1 oz Silver Elephant Coins have a redesigned design on the reverse side. Two male bull elephants are depicted fighting in this year's design. During mating season, male bush elephants frequently engage in physical altercations with one another in an attempt to attract females.

Coin Highlights:

  • 20th anniversary for the Somalia Silver Elephant.
  • Contains 1 Troy oz of .9999 pure silver in BU condition.
  • The face value is 100 Somali Shillings.
  • On the obverse is the Somali coat of arms.
  • The reverse features the image of two bull elephants fighting during mating season.

The Somali coat of arms is portrayed on the obverse of the 2024 Somalia Silver Elephant. Since 2004, this seal has been present on every coin in the series. It displays a crowned shield with a field of horizontal lines behind it and a solitary star in the center. A leopard rests on each side of the shield.

The Somalia African Wildlife series has been popular ever since the series began in 2004. The elephant design has been particularly sought after, just as other major bullion series like the Silver Panda, Silver Kookaburra, and Koala have, because it features a different design every year. It is always something to look forward to with these coins.

The silver series provides stackers with an alternative strategy, whereas the gold coins in the African Elephant Series emphasize 1 oz and fractional-ounce weights. One of the smaller sizes each year in the series is the 1-ounce silver coin. Additional silver weights available are 2 oz, 5 oz, 10 oz, and 1 kg.

The 2024 silver coins and rounds I have featured so far are:

2024 Somali Silver Elephant
2024 Australian Silver Lunar Dragon
2024 Asahi Lunar Dragon

I've always been interested in wildlife conservation. Wildlife contributes to the stability and balance of the natural processes in the world's ecosystems, as well as the beauty of this world.

I love that series, but stopped it two years ago. When I find them in my private security place I’m going to sell them all.

In 2016 there were 10 popular world coins that are staples for stackers, and now there are so many. I don't blame you! Today's ratio is 88.76... not the time to sell.

Pretty coin! Very well designed, but I don't think any elephants live in Somalia. Oh well...

Nice design, indeed!

While Somalia has faced war and instability for over a quarter of a century, its once abundant wildlife has suffered significant losses. Specifically, elephants have been notably absent from the region for quite some time.
In the early 1970s, more than 20,000 elephants roamed near the border between Somalia and Kenya.
However, due to intense poaching, this once-thriving herd dwindled to less than 300 individuals.
