A Feel Good Challenge: #alphabethunt Letter M

avatar

Hello, awesome Hivers, alphabet hunters, and #feelgood community!

It is Thursday and the start of a new alphabet hunting week hosted @barbara-orenya's weekly fun challenge, and this time it is #alphabethunt Letter M.

And here we go!

♥.•:¨¨:•.♥.•::•.♥.•:¨¨*:•.♥

1️⃣ Mandolin

I have several instruments in my music room. A not-so-usual instrument that I have is a Mandolin. It is a Neapolitan or round-backed mandolin.

This beautiful instrument belonged to my Dad who played the mandolin.

A mandolin (Italian: mandolino ; literally "small mandola") is a stringed musical instrument in the lute family and is usually plucked with a plectrum. It commonly has four courses of doubled metal strings tuned in unison (8 strings).

There are many styles of mandolin. What I have is the Neapolitan or round-backed mandolin.

The round-back has a deep bottom, constructed of strips of wood, glued together into a bowl.

2️⃣ Marrow (bone)

One of my favorite comfort foods is Osso Bucco. It is an an Italian dish made with veal shank containing a marrow filled bone, stewed in wine with vegetables and seasonings.

It is one of the easiest dishes to make, and it is so yummy delicious!

Here's a quick step-by-step recipe on

How to make Osso Bucco.

Marrow from cooked bones can be eaten. I love marrow eaten spread on toast. You may also like to know about the vegetable kind of marrow.

Marrow is found in the middle of our bones. Marrow produces many cells vital to keeping us alive, including red blood cells.

♥.•:¨¨:•.♥.•::•.♥.•:¨¨*:•.♥

3️⃣ Mallet

I keep a mallet in my kitchen as one of the tools I use in preparing food. I use it mainly for cutting vegetables with thick and hard exteriors, like this Kabocha squash.

A mallet is a type of hammer. Mallets are often made of rubber or wood and are used where a metal hammer will be too hard. Mallets have large heads, so they do less damage to something they hit than a smaller hammer or another tool would.

♥.•:¨¨:•.♥.•::•.♥.•:¨¨*:•.♥

4️⃣ Mermaid

A mermaid is a mythical creature that is half woman and half fish. A male mermaid is a merman.

I collect things that depict mermaids, such as a Mermaid bill holder, a Mermaid silver bar, and a Mermaid Silver coin.

With most of Earth covered in water, it is not surprising that folklore of many cultures believed the seas were filled with many mysterious creatures, mermaids and serpents being the most popular.

Mermaids have fascinated the imagination of people for hundreds of years in cultures around the world. For ages, sailors and people in coastal towns and villages around the world all had stories of encountering sea maidens.

Mermaids are the object of many silver coins, rounds and bar designs worldwide.

♥.•:¨¨:•.♥.•::•.♥.•:¨¨*:•.♥

5️⃣ Medal

A medal is a small metal disk, usually round or a cross or star any other shape. Medals are given to someone who has done something special, or as a prize for winning a competition.

I have medals receive while I was in school as well as from my professional work. But I do not display them. What I do have hanging on the wall are the fun medals like these ones!

For 5 or 6 years, my sorority sisters batchmates did the Disney Tinkerbell Half Marathons from the 1st year they started it, hehehe! We eventually stopped doing it, but we sure had many fun memories.

♥.•:¨¨:•.♥.•::•.♥.•:¨¨*:•.♥

6️⃣ Matchbook & Matchbox

A matchbook is a different way to store matches than the more common matchbox.

Matchbooks are essentially a folded over piece of cardboard with a rough strip on the outside for striking the matches on.

The matches in the matchbook are all attached together in a row, and also attached to the inside of the matchbook.

They are also made from cardboard, and must be torn off before they can be used.
A matchbox is a small box designed to hold matches. Matchboxes usually have a rough strip along one or two sides to light the matches with. When all the matches have run out, matchboxes are handy to keep other small items in, like spiders.

There you have it, my friends! My selection of SIX words starting with the letter M for this week's #alphabethunt.
Thank you to @barbara-orenya for hosting this fun challenge!

All photos, gif and videos were taken by me using my iPhone6 unless specified otherwise.

Make it a #TERRIFICTHURSDAY!

Thank you for stopping by to view this article.

I post an article daily, and I hope to see you again soon!

Hugs and Kisses 🤗💕💋!!!!

Everybody posts food and I haven't had the time for dinner yet 😂
I was looking through your M words and thought there's no silver thing today, but I had not seen what the Mermaids are made of and I am sure you have also got silver medals for your half Marathons 😉

What would have been my choice For the letter M;

  • Pirate MONEY, goes without saying.
  • MERLOT: Chardonnay, Claret, Riesling I can't really tell the difference blindfolded anyway.
  • MASHER: Not the kitchen potato utensil but the Perv on Discord that begs me to send pictures to see what the Good Lord gave me. Ladies, drop these guys from your friends list fast.
  • MUSASHI: Greatest Japanese Swordsman in Japanese history.
  • and MASK: I make mask wearing cool before this Covid-19 thing.

@kerrislravenhill, Pirate MONEY / MERLOT / MUSASHI / MASK are a great wordpicks (Merlot is my usual red wine to consume -- it goes into glintwein I use to do in the wintertime). not sure about the MASHER - not utencil, neither a person on discord; there exist more cool things to think of, out there. 8-)

The Bloody Raven loves shiny Pirate Money but also like a little nightcap to relax from Katana practice.
Masher, that's bit of a story as a hormonal fan kept making very persistent personal requests.

You always have such personal objects in relation to the letter of the week, it always amazes me the finds you have just around you..😊
I quite skiped the Mallow and Osso Bucco receipe as I don't eat meat 😉
You are so well equipped to overcome this squash with this mallet, and I like that you often present a silver coin with the right pattern for the week, like the mermaid for the M...
I knew the match box but not the match book... 😉
Thanks for this great participation @silversaver888 !

It is wonderful and for every week that we do this, we get to know each other more! That is why I love this challenge very much- I get to share bits and pieces of me which I am not able to do as part of my precious metals article where the focus is my silver and gold stacking journey! I love it that once again, that I was able to share a somewhat "new" word, just as I have learned so much just reading your articles and that of others. BTW, I like the 2 bottles of Bordeaux"premier grand cru Classé" Margaux that you showed. It will go well with the Osso Bucco! I'd love to know what your favorite Vegan dish is, I may know how to prepare it.
Have a beautiful evening, my dear @barbara-orenya, and take care 🥰🌺🤙

Nicely done! My dad used to eat the bone marrow from beef my mom would cook. I never did develop a taste for it. We have had several mandolins in the past and still have a Tacoma brand mandolin and a Kentucky as well. I've kept rhythm strums with it, but do not truly play as a picker. It's one of the instruments I 'play at playing', lol! Thanks for sharing my sweet sis. Have a wonderful night!💕💕🌸🤗

There is just so much marrow in a flat of shank, and I recall in our dinner table, my Mom would make sure that my siblings and I would get a piece each. That made it special! Extra special too were the times when my Dad and played music together- me in the ukelele, and him on the mandolin! O a, so glad to be able to share with you, my sweet sis! Have a marvelous day and take care 🥰🌺🤙, lots of hugs and love 🤗💕.

Hehehe... I keep my mallet underneath the sink. And I bust it out sometimes when I have friends around, just to impress them on my hammering skills, LOL! Sometimes when I do not want to exert effort, using the flat side of a chef's knife, I use the mallet to crash several segments of garlic at a time.
Between all of us (I think there are usually 20 to 30 who participate in the #alphabethunt), we can have lots of words that are so interesting to view in photos. What fun 😍!
Have a lovely weekend, my friend @txatxy, and take care 🥰🌺🤙

What an awesome M letter post! I must say my favourite here is the Mandolin, I've listened to Javier Mas playing it in a Leonard Cohen concert, simply stunning! What a great use for a mallet too;)
Lovely lovely post, deserving of a gold star I would say.

Hello, @lizelle! I was at your blog earlier, and it is so great to see you here too! And I too have viewed the "Blue Raincoat" and "Who by Fire" videos on YouTube! It is so cool that we did something in common!
When I have to do lots of garlic, I use the mallet to crush garlic!
Thank you for taking the time to stop by and for your kind comment, dear @lizelle. I appreciate you. Have a lovely day, and take care 🥰🌺🤙

Your osso bucco recipe sounds delicious. I do like marrow! Nice selection of M words. I need a mallet for in my kitchen and didn't realize it until you showed me!

Mallets are surely helpful... makes some food prep easier to do, without having to exert effort! This one that I have is not the smallest available. Hindsight, I should have gotten the smaller size. But since I have this one already... oh well, it does the job! And may come in handy for self-defense too, hehehe!
Have a lovely week ahead, my dear friend @melinda1010100, and take care 🥰🌺🤙

(Edited)

let me start from the end: matchbox is more useful thing then a matchbook! when its run out of matches, it can house something useful. like spiders, and much more. recently I worked on an album about portsigars, and was left with a few matchbook images from WW2 - in case you will be intrested to look at this vintage:

!matches_img023.jpg

!matches_img020.jpg

this, and Mermaids, were not a surprising wordpicks for me, but others were! 1stly I decided that you play Mandolin, and was enchanted - then I have read it's your dad's - ok, but now I am tempted to know what else do you have in your music room. did you make an earlier post about it?..

Mallet - I totally forgot this word. cant even coulnt it as my passive vocabulary. TNKS for a little reminder! we also have one (made of wood, its a simple one), dont remember when I used it last time.

One of my favorite comfort foods is Osso Bucco. It is an an Italian dish made with veal shank containing a marrow filled bone, stewed in wine with vegetables and seasonings.

this. I had to use google vocabulary on this, cause I could not understand everything, except of 'It is an an Italian dish' and 'stewed in wine with vegetables and seasonings' parts. and I still not sure about the true meaning of 'comfort food'... but now I am in the know what a Marrow is! I am so ignorant in terms of cooking and gastronomy! If I happen to see the Osso-Busso at Italian restaurant, I definitely will put two plus two and point my finger at it!

the last but not the least: Medals -- a cool wordpick, and amazing stuff to share. I wish I knew what the 'Disney Tinkerbell Half Marathons' are (googletranslate wasnt much of a help).

ddd.jpg

this is such a Memorable stuff, intresting to examine all the details. what are the stories behind these three medals, why do they have such a design?

one more time, congratulations on your story -- the photos all talked to me.
