Birds for Easter, Plants

Every Easter, I feel the need to make a public service announcement because the confusion is real. Rabbits do not lay eggs. Not yesterday, not today, not ever. Yes, there are a few funky mammals out there that lay eggs, but bunnies are absolutely not part of that club.

IMG_9980.jpeg

So when you see my Easter décor full of birds and colorful eggs, just know I’m keeping it biologically correct over here. Those cute pastel eggs? Bird eggs. Not bunny eggs. The Easter Bunny is basically the courier here, not the one making the product.

IMG_9979.jpeg

It cracks me up every time. We’ve all just accepted this idea of a rabbit handing out eggs it couldn’t possibly produce. Imagine explaining that with a straight face. “No, the bunny doesn’t lay them. Yes, it still brings them. No, I don’t know why. It just does.” Easter bunnies do not lay eggs!

IMG_9977.jpeg

Anyway, consider this my friendly reminder: Easter bunnies do not lay eggs. The birds are doing all the work, and I’m giving them the spotlight they deserve. LOL.
These colored eggs are the birds' eggs, LOL!

I rescued this plant three weeks ago. It was beat‑up, tossed on the side of the road, and it looked like it had no chance.

I picked it up anyway and brought it home. I replanted it, gave it some water, some light, and a little care. Now it’s pushing out new leaves. I’m pretty sure it’s a Christmas cactus, but whatever it is, it’s tough. Watching it bounce back has been a small reminder that a little care can go a long way.

IMG_9983.jpeg

I finally planted the Forget‑Me‑Not seeds that @elizabethbit gave me, and I put them in the flamingo planter she also gifted me.

IMG_9981.jpeg

It takes about 8 to 10 days for them to germinate, so now it’s just a waiting game. I planted around ten seeds because I’m expecting only a 20% to 30% germination rate. As soon as they’re strong enough, I’ll move them to a bigger pot. Forget‑Me‑Nots can grow up to 15 to 18 inches tall, so they’ll need more space.

IMG_9982.jpeg

For now, they’re tucked into their little flamingo home, and I’m hoping at least a few will survive.

I wonder why someone would toss a Christmas cactus on the side of the road @silversaver888?🙄
I’m glad it found a good home with you!🤗👍

Poor plant! It was too obvious, I couldn't believe nobody rescued it before me, @silvertop! Its leaves were all torn up. I'm glad it seems to have recovered.

"Behind a successful and cheerful Easter Bunny is an overworked Hen."
The Christmas Cactus I saved from the Home Depot compost near death more than a year ago is more than twice the original size and is now full of lovely white with a hint of pink/violet tones.

I presume you do not know what color of the blooms are, let's wait for the surprise as Christmas 2026 comes around. I will guess pink.

Always, with Love 🤗🌺❤️

Your Christmas Cactus is very healthy with lots of blooms! It will be sometime before my poor little plant recovers from what it's been through. I imagine it was just left unattended until the owner tossed it away. I was thinking of giving it a name.
Is your ear pierced, sis?

Thought of a name yet Sis? 🌵

Oh, I neglected my ears back when Deb was sick and dealing with all that stuff. Then Parkinson's disease has made it near impossible to put on any jewelry.
The clip-on versions are only a little easier.

That's right! The bunnies just deliver the bird eggs. Just like storks deliver our babies. 🙃

From Google AI:

The myth of storks delivering babies originates from Northern European, particularly German and Scandinavian, folklore. It connects the 9-month migration cycle of storks returning from Africa to Europe in the spring (coinciding with increased births) with the birds' tendency to nest on chimneys, symbolizing new life, purity, and good luck.

Fascinating. For some reason the stork was always drunk in the Warner Bros. cartoons I watched as a kid. 😂

I’ve never seen birds as an Easter symbol before. Cool idea Saver

Yes, @silverd510!

various birds are significant symbols of Easter, representing new life, the Holy Spirit, peace, and the resurrection. Specific birds often associated with the holiday include doves, chicks, goldfinches, swallows, and sometimes the phoenix. These symbols highlight themes of renewal and spring.

Happy Easter (it's Eastertide)!

You know sis......it's the Cadbury Bunny's fault! That's where the myth about bunnies laying eggs came from, !LOLZ

You are correct; your rescued plant is !INDEED a Christmas Cactus! I'm curious what color it will bloom!

The flamingo pot looks so cute-so perfect for you sis! I look forward to seeing the forget-me-nots when they germinate and later bloom!
