Do you keep cash at home?

Cash is king!

Cash is needed for extreme emergencies, and you can't rely on the bank to give it to you.

We aren't talking about an emergency fund that you keep in the bank. We are not talking about the six months to a year to keep in the bank to tide you over in case of unforeseen circumstances like a loss of job. That's not what we are talking about here.

It is cash that you keep stashed away at home for when there is an extended power outage, a natural disaster like a hurricane, or a snowstorm, or a cyberattack, and ATMs and credit card readers or digital money are not available.

It is the money you would keep in your safe or someplace secret. Because the safe is the first thing the thief will be looking for. For some, it makes more sense to keep the money in a zip-lock bag and then kept in the freezer, or stashed inside a coffee can and buried in your backyard, or in a pretend can of canned vegetables and kept in the pantry. The trick is to remember where you kept the money, LOL. Make sure a member of your family knows where you keep your stash, or it will surely end up being a treasure hunt!

BTW, there is a whole cottage industry whose business it is to cleverly hide your money, if you want to be serious!

In the case of natural disasters, there is a website entirely devoted to that. They list the things that you might need, from water to canned goods, etc, HERE. Be sure you have a can opener!

They have not listed money as a priority.

But not all people believe in keeping money at home. Some feel that carrying money in their wallets is a chore! For as long as they have their phones. So to them, carrying money is unrealistic. Do you think it is generational?

Physical money actually helps you save... as opposed to digital money. A $5.00 bill is something others don't encounter and deal with daily in their lives.

To physically hand over money and see it vanish hurts. Because of this, using cash instead of a debit or credit card for purchases might result in significant savings because you're less willing to part with your money if it hurts.

Contrarily, using a credit or debit card feels less authentic than using cash because you aren't witnessing the disappearance of your actual bills. Because of this, it's very easy to idly swipe a credit card and forget you've even made a purchase.

Do you keep cash at home?

Excellent post. And I actually don't have anymore cash at all. All my savings. And even a good chunk of next month's funds just got spent!

Of course my vehicle did blow up and I just had to spend money on a little motorcycle to get around.

However I'm super tickled that I've got an amazing motorcycle now!

Today is an absolutely amazing day!

It's getting harder every day here to have any cash, our inflation is out of control here. To that point, I prefer to keep US cash on hand. And always enough CAD for a tank of fuel.

Great advice! I make it a point to take cash out of the ATM when I go to Costco, because there's no fee. For years, the limit was $400. Earlier this year, the limit dropped to $300, and now it's down to $200. I also try to use a debit card at the grocery store and get cash back. That limit is $50. I was at Target or Walmart a while back, and there was actually a 50-cent charge to get cash back from a debit transaction!
It's not going to get any easier to get cash, only harder, so your recommendation is timely.

I use the bank's ATM machine once only for my cash needs. Any additional cash, I take it from the grocery store. An auto deposit for money market is made on my account. Then I always zero out my checking account onto the savings account when the new inflow comes in. It work for me.
Yes, it is so much harder now!

Here we are using UPI transaction through mobile. Since it was launched hardly anyone carry or keep money at-home...unless and untill you have some illegal source of it. Else we keep.or carry little ....I remeber I have approx 500 INR with me since last 6 months and not yet been used

Ah... all your money is in the custody of the bank.
P2P and P2M are also common here.
But it is good that you don't touch the 500 INR. Do you have plans to increase that amount?

i dont think so....now UPI is very common....and everyone , shops or vendor even the street vendor carry a QR code....so keeping much cash is not make sense...

I think it's best to keep my Bill Money in the Bank and my Spending Money in my Wallet and Pocket... My Spending Money is Paper Fiat... My other Pocket is for all the Coins I might get back with my Change.. I never leave the house with Coins in my Pocket...

It is a very good idea to have some 'stashed' away for sure. Just today, I had a patient ask me if I would take cash! I said, of course we do! He told me he has gone places where they don't want to accept it.

The 'bury it in the yard thing'---folks should be careful of that as I know someone who buried $5000 and never found where he buried it at again. He is no long of this world, so it's unlikely anyone will find it!

Take care my sweet sis! Love ya much!🤗😘💞🌸. !LADY !LUV

He did not draw a map, hehehe!!! What a loss!
I think that the establishments not wanting to accept cash are discriminating against cash payers! They don't like cash to prevent pilferage, or save them from going to the merchant teller. For whatever reason they have, I think that is not right.

Unfortunately, he didn't. He actually buried 2 of them but found just one. The container wasn't waterproof and the bills were in pretty bad shape. Fortunately, the bank was able to replace the money when he took it to them. I'm kind of surprised they did that, but glad for him that they did.

I think maybe one of the reasons merchants don't like cash is that it's not as quick to close a transaction as a card is; It requires one to think, especially if they have to make change. If they don't have a calculator or a cash register telling how much change to give back, most folks cannot count it back to them! I've seen this happen even in our clinic. One of my coworkers will ask me how much to give back. She also is not a stupid person, so it's maybe kind of intimidating to some. Oh well.......Love ya much sis!🤗😘💞🌸🎄 !LOLZ

I loved mahatir mohammad's idea of a gold based economic system being implemented in Malaysia and I wish a similar system/concept can be implemented in Pakistan as well cause Gold/Silver are the real commodities so why are they not used in day to day buying/selling and why it is considered a regime change like being associated with the ISlamic Shariah Law I never got my head wrapped around on that concept really.

You mean like Libya tried to do with the golden dinar?

Are you seriously trying to get your entire country destroyed? That's exactly what the international banking cartel does!

And Shariah law? Ick. Nope bad....

Yep the CIA had a chance all over this situation. Also look up the murder of ambassador Chris Stevens and 13 hours in Benghazi... The resulting collapse resulted in appalling crimes against humanity and the country still hasn't recovered.

Careful on dreaming, it might get your country wrecked.

Look at the past year after China decided to say that they were going to do the same thing and release a gold backed currency? Oh yeah! China is collapsing even quicker than Russia is. Russia is forced to take gas payments in Chinese currency.

I usually don't keep cash on me or at home. I end up having to use it for groceries or some unexpected event, and then forget to replenish it from the ATM.

I've got gold and silver, and if things get so bad I need cash to persuade someone to part with something I need, well, lead, brass and gunpowder will do that job just as well.

Yes, but I won't say how much or say how well protected it is.
A local bank I use just got boarded up with no explanation. Somethings going on and it ain't good. I'm taking more cash out even if it is just $500 a day.

Always, with love 🤗🌺❤️

At home, I keep a lot of coins in coin rolls. I only have around 130$ worth of coin rolls, but I've been slowly saving my coins to roll them up. I only keep the good to great-quality coins, but damaged coins are deposited in the bank.

As for bills, I don't keep many bills on me, but I'm considering having a cash stash just in case. You can never be too careful.
