Egyptian Gods Series- Wadjet Silver Round

Heidi Wastweet designed the ninth installment of the Egyptian Gods Series. This time it is Wadjet.

Wadjet, also spelled Wadjit, also called Buto, Uto, or Edjo, cobra goddess of ancient Egypt. Depicted as a cobra twined around a papyrus stem, she was the tutelary goddess of Lower Egypt. Wadjet and Nekhbet, the vulture-goddess of Upper Egypt, were the protective goddesses of the king and were sometimes represented together on the king’s diadem, symbolizing his reign over all of Egypt. The form of the rearing cobra on a crown is termed the uraeus. In mythology, Wadjet was nurse to the infant god Horus and helped Isis, his mother, protect him from his treacherous uncle, Seth, when she took refuge in the delta swamps.

2 oz Wadjet Silver Round Egyptian Gods Series #9

The goddess is shown on the obverse of the 2 oz Wadjet Silver Round in a combination female-serpent form. The most typical depiction of Wadjet's human form is that of a hybrid of a human and a beast, like many Egyptian deities. Her lower body is that of a serpent from the waist down while her upper body is that of a lovely woman from the waist up.

The goddess is depicted in all of her animal glory on the reverse of the Wadjet Rounds. Wadjet is shown here as a snake standing on an altar with a huge bowl underneath. The background features a field of hieroglyphs with the well-known pyramid design theme.

The 2 oz silver rounds are extremely high relief with a strikingly deep backdrop field and elevated, three-dimensional relief on the design.

Very lovely, indeed! I like the series thus far. As for air tights.....I keep ones I've purchased ironically at Hobby Lobby, for anything new.
