I bought a 2023 American Gold Eagle, 1/4 oz

Yay! I now have four 1/4 oz American Gold Eagles!

I actually acquired this late March this year and I received it the first week of April. I haven't had the chance to open the package until now.

Last night, the spot price of gold was $2,035.30. A 1/4 oz American Gold Eagle coin at check price is $702.17.

I got lucky, again! I bought mine for $573.29.

Coin Highlights:
38th year of release in the 1/4 oz American Gold Eagle Series.
Contains 1/4 Troy oz of actual gold content.
The face value of $10 (USD) is fully backed by the US government.
On the obverse is Lady Liberty.
The reverse features a design focused on the head of the eagle.
JM Bullion

Serendipity! My coin appraised while it was in the box, hehehe,

The United States Mint offers four coins in the BU Series of the American Gold Eagle Series. There are two investment-grade coins that are popular. These are the gold coins weighing one ounce and one tenth of an ounce. But I am particularly fond of the 1/4 oz American Gold Eagle Coins.

Will I purchase more of American Gold Eagles at these prices? I think I will wait for a while, don't you agree?

Yes, @thebighigg! I think the 1/4 oz gold is ideal! Most of my fractional gold is 1/4 oz or close to it. I love the 20 Francs.

Excellent @silversaver888!🤗
Your American gold eagle appreciated in value before you even open the package !😇
Another good example of “Dollar cost averaging”!🤗

It was funny, but it did! Who would think that this size of AGE would appreciate in price in just a month from $573.26 to $702.17. That's a difference of $128.91!!!
Yup, I use the “dollar cost averaging” method, as I buy every month. But I still shop around so that I am assured of the lowest price, @silvertop 😇

It’s also a benefit in the state we live to drive to the local coin shop. Anything bought locally is always in cash and always tax free.
Our state considers precious metals to be a currency ….. never taxed!😇

Very cool! I have little to no experience with "current" coins, all mine are antiques (early sovereigns and other European gold pieces)... do you buy these from a broker or bullion dealer, or directly from the US Mint, or how does that work?

I love the 20 Francs too, @curatorcat.leo ! Don't you love the Marriane coin?

Or the Angel coin?

or the Swiss 20 Francs?

These America Gold Eagle can be purchase directly from the US Mint or any reputable bullion dealer! You should get one!

Very pretty! I like the history of the older coins; the fact that they were actually legal tender in use from the 1870's (mostly) has a lot of appeal... but because they were fairly common — relatively speaking — the numismatic markup is often trivial.

I really wish that I had a $20 us gold piece and it's really funny that these are only $10 gold pieces... And only the government would put out a coin that is worth$500 and say it's only 10 bucks...

Yes, that's what the face value is. On the 1/10 oz, it is $5; $10 on the 1/4 oz; $25 on the 1/2 oz and $50 on the 1 oz. This is the Gold Buffalo, it is also $50 in face value:

Man wish I could get a $20 or $50 from the Idaho city mint. I mined there for a bit!

Interesting... Back in the day (late 80s) I bought a few freshly minted Silver Eagles and one Gold Eagle, not sure which denomination. I guess I'll have to look and check what they're worth these days.

I don’t understand why you still order from Apmex they are a rip off. Use Monument Metals, they are almost $100 cheaper right now on the 1/4 oz gold ASG.

Hehehe, I didn't buy from Apmex, but for the best price dealer at that time... DBCoins.
Yeah, Apmex is slightly higher (two bucks) than JM Bullion. It is always higher!

They come up in a very beautiful packaging, and that is why they remain shinny.

It’s a very nice coin but current premiums are way too high over spot. ❤👍😊
