Learning to Live With What I Survived

Some things change you before you even see it happening. Healing isn’t loud. It’s slow and quiet and sometimes messy. This is me trying to describe what life feels like now that the hardest part is finally behind me.

Light on My Skin

The storm is finally behind me, and I’m still trying to figure out what life looks like now.
Some days I wake up and just sit there for a minute, letting my body catch up with my mind. Everything feels familiar but different at the same time. I guess that’s what happens when you go through something that shakes you all the way down.

IMG_2209.jpeg

There were nights when I held on by the smallest thread.
I don’t even know how I got through some of them.
And there were mornings when getting out of bed felt like a whole journey.
But somehow, even when I didn’t feel strong, something in me kept a tiny bit of light going. I didn’t see it then, but looking back, it was there.

IMG_2208.jpeg

Now the light hits my skin in a way that feels… honest.
Not dramatic. Not magical. Just real.
Warm in a way I didn’t realize I missed.
I’m moving through life with a heart that remembers what healing feels like.
It’s bittersweet — of course it is — but I’m still rising. Slowly. Quietly. In my own way.

IMG_2207.jpeg

I still notice the places where the shadows used to sit.
They don’t scare me anymore.
They’re just part of the story.
They taught me how to forgive myself, how to honor the parts of me that kept going even when everything felt heavy and unfair.

IMG_2206.jpeg

My scars show up every time I’m getting ready for the day. They’re big, and they carry so much of what I’ve lived through. And I’m still figuring out how to make peace with them.

I’m not the same person I was before all of this.
I don’t think I’m supposed to be.
Joy feels different now — deeper, slower, more intentional.
Peace finally has room to breathe without me chasing it.

IMG_2205.jpeg

The light is brighter these days.
I’m stepping forward with a soul that feels ready for whatever comes next.
Bittersweet, always. But still rising.
Still shining.
I walked through fire and made it out.
And this victory is mine.

Good for you @silversaver888 on your healing journey. What a brilliant way to share with us how you’re doing.

The photos of the orchids in your Northern California window are meditative.

Take it easy. Know that you’ve got a lot of friends who care about you here. 😘

It feels exactly how I worded it...
It makes me think of how the survivors of the Holocaust and wars describe what they have been through.
Thank you, my friend.

The old saying is “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger”. I don’t know exactly what you went through or going through, but your attitude towards it is fantastic. Stay positive my dear friend. When my dad was diagnosed in 1998 with cancer he fought his ass off, he had plenty of really hard days. But somehow he pulled through them. He got through the worst of it and managed to get 18 quality years afterwards.
My thoughts and prayers are with you my friend. If I can help in any way you know how to contact me.

I definitely can relate to your father's plight during the hard days. I am very sure that seeing you and knowing that you are praying for him helped your father a lot.
Thank you, @silverd510, my friend, for your prayers.

God's light is always in you sis, and He is with you as well. It is a sort of refining that you've gone through; through the fire and come out the other side. You may not 100% realize just how much stronger this has made you. The joy you mention; being more intentional-I love that you are looking at it and feel it that way. The peace we are given after the fire, is without description and His joy comes with the morning.

May you continue to find your peace in Him and your joy as well. Love ya sis! 🤗🌹😘😍❤️ !LADY !HOPE !INDEED !PIMP !BBH

You are a survivor, again.
But it was different, in the quietness there was a sense of need,
It is that similar feeling before I lost Debbie, before our goodbyes, my roommate.
The challenge to our mortality doesn't always paly out at a daily level.
When it does, we come to know who friends rally are, bound by spirit.

“Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.” – 1 John 4:7

Always, with Love 🤗🌺❤️
