Little Green Orchid

(Edited)

I have a portrait in oil of my mother, who passed away while I was in college. It hangs on top of the piano which she used to play.

I always glance at her portrait, especially when I am facing a challenge. I ask the question, "What would you do in such a situation?".

I adore her.

To the right of that portrait sits Little Green Orchid.

Guess why it was called "Little Green" by the grower?

I took this photo a couple of days go.

One of the flowers is starting to open!

And indeed, it was!

While many of our favorite garden flowers bloom in the summer, many orchids bloom in the fall, followed by winter and spring bloomers. Many orchids will rebloom several times per year and can live for decades—the oldest plant on record thrived for more than 100 years.

This was painted by a famous artist, whose name I am forbidden to mention!
At the time he painted this, he was working under contract with a gallery, and all proceeds of the sale of his works technically belong to the gallery. But he was a struggling artist then, and a friend of my Mom.
Thank you for asking!
And how are you, my friend?

Such a perfect spot for "Little Green". It is almost as if your mom is smiling upon it. Lovely portrait a such a cool thing to have. The frame is elegant as well. I have a similar frame framing our family portrait.. taken in the late 70's. I can see why you come there to sit and ask for advice from your late mother.

The Orchid is so cool! I like the greenish-yellow and the tiny flower size. You have it nicely clipped up. The plant looks healthy as well, but that is as I would expect, since your mom is watching over it.

Thanks for posting this to our community! I appreciate that 😁

Did you know that she raised orchids? She had them in driftwoods!
I was away in high school and college
and was not able to show her my appreciation (I was clueless!!!).
Cool, huh? They almost had it green! Well, almost like yellow-green.
Hahaha, my Mom is watching over it!

The story and memories bring a smile to my face and she isn't even my mom.. I will ask her to keep an eye on mine too! Don't hog her for yourself only.. lol

A piece of driftwood is a neat idea. Sometimes I find it here at the beach. Next time I am walking the beach, I will keep my eye out for a useful piece. 😁

And each orchid attaches to the diftwood via its roots. No other medium!
She stands the driftwood as they would when they were trees, and technically we have "trees of orchids". We have them all over the place... beautiful memories!

I have to say, that is very pretty! All of your orchid info has prompted me to purchase some orchid medium and a new pot. I'm bringing my little one home and re-potting it this week and then returning it. I'll keep you posted as to whether nor not it eventually blooms again. Thanks for sharing sis!🤗🤗🤗
