Market Friday: PumpkinsπŸ™ƒ

Pumpkins come in different shapes, sizes, and color.

The classic ones, called Traditional Orange Pumpkins, are perfect for eating. They have a mild flavor.

I love it roasted (because it is easy). After cleaning it, put the entire thing in the over. You can roast whole pumpkins the oven.

Sometimes when they are small enough, I split it in half, remove the seeds, and the roast it. I use a spoon to scrape out all the seeds and stringy pulp from the cavity.

At times, when I have more time, I slice the pumpkin into strips, salt it, the roast. What temperature? If you're roasting, roast at 400 F for 35 to 45 minutes or until the flesh is soft.

Or I bake it into casseroles, or soups, or make it into a puree for a favorite pumpkin pie.

Have you tried Pumpkin Quesadillas or Pumpkin Tortilla Soup? I must remember to give you the recipe when I make those!

Picture below are Sparkler pumpkins and White Cinderella.

And these are Tiger Stripe Pumpkins.

These are called Knucklehead Pumpkin, πŸ€ͺ hahaha!

This one is called Warty Goblins, πŸ˜„ hehehe!

And Baby Boo!

Now what are these. Are they Black Futso?

What about these? Are they Fairy Tale Pumpkin?

Pumpkins are also great for carving into Jack-o-lanterns! Jack-o-lanterns are associated with Halloween and I will write about that closer to the date, which is October 31.

The temperatures have dropped a little bit, and it is the season for pumpkins. Many fields are being prepared for pumpkin patches already. It is two weeks and a month to Halloween! I know some people who are big on Halloween!

Next to lambs and western things, pumpkins are another favorite of mine! Once, back in Ohio, I had 15 different jack-o-lanterns all with different faces! It was quite the carving extravaganza! There are so many other varieties now! None of the knucklhead, baby boo, or the smaller ones existed back then. You post makes me want to run right out and purchase all of the varieties!

Do you make pumpkin bread? That is totally delicious too. I will add another pumpkin to my collection, I'm sure, this weekend! Thanks for sharing the beautiful pumpkin pics, sis! Hugs and kisses!πŸ€—πŸ˜˜πŸ’žπŸŒΈπŸŽƒπŸŽƒπŸŽƒ !LADY

Not, it's not my picture because I made it last year and I don't have a photo. These are the ingredients and instructions. Don't be intimated by the list of ingredients. This is very easy to do!!! I got this somewhere in the web, it is very good!

Pumpkin Bread Pudding
1 pound loaf day old Bread (French, Italian, or Challah), torn into small pieces
1 cup Heavy Cream
1 cup Half and Half
1 15-ounce can Pumpkin Puree
1-1/2 cups Granulated Sugar
3 tablespoon Melted Butter
4 Eggs
2 teaspoons Vanilla
1 tablespoon Pumpkin Pie Spice (I included the pumpkin pie spice recipe below)
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Spray a 9 x 13 baking dish with cooking spray and place torn pieces of bread in the dish.
In a large bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, half and half, pumpkin, sugar, melted butter, eggs, vanilla, and pumpkin pie spice.
Slowly pour the batter over the bread pieces in the baking dish. Be sure to cover all the bread pieces.
Bake in a preheated oven at 350 for about 1 hour.

Praline Sauce
1 cup Unsalted Butter
1 cup Heavy Cream
1 cup Brown Sugar
1/2 cup Chopped Toasted Pecans
Instructions
While the bread pudding is baking, make the praline sauce. In a heavy saucepan over medium-low heat, stir together the butter, heavy cream, and brown sugar; bring to a boil.
Reduce heat to low, and stir pecans into the cream mixture. Simmer until the sauce thickens, for about 5 minutes.
Pour over bread pudding to serve.

Pumpkin Pie Spice
2 tsp Cinnamon
1/8 tsp Nutmeg
1/4 tsp Ground Ginger
1/4 tsp Ground Cloves
1/2 tsp Ground Allspice

I love pumpkins and seeing piles of them never gets old. Our local garden market has posted on fb that they were putting out pumpkins and mums and apple cider and etc, so it is certainly THAT time.

Many years ago, my husband and I bought truck loads of pumpkins in October to sell. We had a fenced in back yard and we would put down hay and lay out the pumpkins in rows for folks to stop and buy. Of course they looked great in the yard and loaded high on the truck, but the most lovely thing was seeing them growing all over the huge fields when we would go to buy them. Fun memories.
