My Tiny Silver Piggy Bank

What is this dirty piggy bank doing here?!

This is what happens when I keep it in deep storage... the piggy bank is made of 925 silver. Let me clean it a little bit.

Let us open the piggy bank from below.

There is a screw located in the belly to open the piggy bank. Five turns open the bank.

... to reveal what is inside.

It has silver U.S. Washington Quarters, Standing Liberty Quarter, Mercury Dimes, 1912 Barber Dollar, Walking Liberty Half Dollar, Morgan Dollar...

Do you have a piggy bank?

The name "piggy bank" comes from pygg, an orange-colored clay that was employed in the Middle Ages to create jars for preserving foodstuffs like salt. These jars had changed into hollow containers with a coin slot sometime in the 18th century in England, frequently taking the form of a pig to create a visual joke on the name of the clay.

Few of these early pig jars, as they were known, have survived since breaking the jar would be required to obtain the coins inside. Removable plugs have saved piggy banks in more recent times and transformed them into the enjoyable collectibles they are now.

We can all agree that today we understand what the piggy bank represents and utilize it to put coins in, even if there is no clear origin for the piggy bank or how the pig became the symbol for saving money. It's probably safe to say that the piggy bank's name and pig-shaped design will endure.

Get your own savings piggy bank to use or share with your children if you want to save more money and make sure your coins are safe.

A piggy bank to save coins in teaches a child the importance of saving early in life! A wonderful thing to do for Abigail, @jlufer!

Silver filled with silver can there be anything better?
It reminds me so much of the little pig I had when I was little.

Used to love our little piggy banks, never so stately, nor collect worthy as this one.

Filled with lovely old coins, what a treat to open then explore, another addition to your wonderful collection in silver!

Thank you for the tip, @joanstewart! I so much appreciate it.
I think I'll get another one, an inexpensive one and try to fill it with loose change. And add that to my goal!!!

Have a kitchen jar for small change which we donate when full, adds up and helps someone with a loaf of bread possibly a container of milk.

Piggy bank as such, I have not seen in many years, at one time the banks handed them out for children to take home.

Awww, how cute that little piggy bank is. I hope to have a rose gold color of it dear. I actually have mine here similar to the shape of it but it is made of plastic, hehe. That one is really so cute and I love it so much. More savings to deposit on that piggy. Best regards and have a great day my dear friend.

I love the piggy bank @silversaver888 and 925 sterling,it polished up beautifully!!🤗
Having a glass piggy bank as a kid, I learned that a butter knife would coerce silver quarters out !😇
Silly me ….. now I wish I had left all those silver coins in this piggy bank…😲

Hahaha, kids think of the silliest things. I, on the other hand wanted to surprise myself, not seeing how much was inside. I remember just starring at the thing, ever so often shaking the piggy bank, as if I could tell how much was inside! I bought a teddy bear with the coins, and then some, @silvertop 🤗.

She's seldom active on YouTube.
Last I heard was that a letter carrier was stealing her bullion from her incoming bullion. I'm not sure if she had any progress resolving that issue with her complains.

Ms. Saver @silversaver888

One-hundredth anniversaries are special in any scenario, but as Disney turns 100, it seems undeniably fitting for the Company to pull out all the stops with a worldwide celebration of the magic, the memories, the movies, and the moments that have been experienced and shared by people all over the world in the last century, thanks to “one man’s dream.”

In light of the celebratory festivities, U. S. currency will reportedly feature the likeness of the man behind the mouse and the magic, Walt Disney. According to a satirical report, Mr. Disney’s image will be featured on the $100 bill, in place of Benjamin Franklin, beginning this month. Walt’s image will be printed on the $100 bill through June 2024, at which time, Franklin’s likeness will begin to be printed again.

The U. S. bills will reportedly be circulated currency with Walt’s likeness printed on them. Below is an image of the front of the bill.

I have a piggy, but she's ceramic and she is a lamb! I call her Annabelle. She is ALWAYS hungry, lol, but currently she is holding fiat coin and not silver.

I remember some of the coins you have in yours from my childhood. I had an aunt and uncle and when we visited their home, my uncle Earl always hid silver half dollar and dollars within the 'davenport' cushions! It was mine and my brother's job to find them, which we did. They went home with us and were stored in a glass piggy. I remember my mom used to keep them in the cupboard above the washer in the kitchen. I also remember that one day, piggy was no more. I did not get the coins that were within. I was never given a reason, so I am hoping my parents had a good reason for taking the coins.

Today, Annabelle, my lamb piggy is a fairly large girl with a good capacity for coins. I will have to take a pic someday and do a post on her maybe!

Thanks for sharing your piggy treasure, sis, and for reminding me of fond memories of visiting my aunt and uncle! Much love!🤗😘💖🌸 !LADY

Wow! Really impressive! I am actually struggling to clean my silver . How / what ingredient do you use to clean 925 silver?

For silver coins, I run them in warm water and scrub it with a soft brush. That's all. For .925 silver unstackables, I use a silver polish.

Amazing. This is my first time coming across something like that. The only piggy bank I know of is an online app used to save money. Thank God I have understood the importance of saving money which I am doing now and won´t hesitate to introduce it to my children in the future because they must start saving every penny right from a little age.
