One of the greatest men who lived in the 20th century is one of my favorite saints, Pope St. John Paul II.

The Highland Mint

a rare and commemorative silver round issued by The Highland Mint in the United States, featuring Pope John Paul II and important stages of his life, produced in 2005.
I remember the visit of then Pope John Paul II, now St. John Paul II, to California! I was 10 years old. I still have the umbrella that has Totus Tuus. It is a greeting written in Latin, meaning "all yours". Totus tuus was used by Pope John Paul II as his personal motto to express his personal consecration to Mary.

This 39-year-old round is 1 ozt, .999 fine
a silver souvenir of St. John Paul II visit to California.

Depicted on this round is Mission San Carlos Borromeo de Carmelo. Mission San Carlos Borroméo de Carmelo, popularly known as Mission Carmel, is the second mission in California's series. It was named after Saint Charles Borromeo, a 16th-century archbishop of Milan, when it was founded on June 3, 1770.

A Rare One Troy Ounce .999 Silver Round commemorating our Great President Ronald Reagan's visit with Pope John Paul II (cannonized Saint in 2014) in May 2, 1984.

The back of the coin depicts Denali, the tallest mountain in North America located in south-central Alaska. The native Koyukon Athabascan people call the mountain Denali, which is usually translated as "The Great One."

Yeah, it is a meaningful collection! Too bad I just collect coins, rounds, and bars on the side.
This is the umbrella, which I treasure not only as a souvenir of Pope St John Paul, but more for my Mom, who brought me to see the Pope.

I have the 1,000-złoty coin, and I’ve seen the monument in Gdańsk a few times. I often go to the area to hunt for amber—it’s really fun. Lately, I’ve even been working on a project in my garage that should help me out a bit with that.

The Highland Mint proof rounds are well-regarded in the collecting community. JPII silver holds both numismatic and precious metals value — the man was arguably the most consequential figure of the 20th century, and the silver backing gives it a floor that pure collectibles don't have.

The 1oz proof format is also one of the most liquid sizes if you ever needed to sell. Stacking commemorative silver with historical significance is a solid approach — you get the metal value plus the collector premium.

Pope John Paul II was very much held in high esteem by many around the world. It was hard to believe when he passed on from this world.

The coins and medallion are beautiful indeed, and a lovely tribute to him. All done in beautiful details. I especially like the first two and the one with Ronal Reagan and the Pope.

Very true. His influence reached so many corners of the world that his passing felt like the end of an era. Even people who weren’t Catholic recognized the weight of that moment.

Those are beautiful! It's sad that so many people have forgotten the Cold War and just what a scary time it really was. Growing up in the 80's I remember it well, and our school's even had bomb shelters built in the basements in case of nuclear attack. Reagan and the Pope really did a lot to help bring the conflict to the eventual conclusion.

It's just sad that now we see the starts of a new Cold War all over again. People don't learn from history, and so it's just seems to repeat itself...

Reagan and Pope John Paul II definitely helped cool things down, at least as many historians describe it.

I recall Pope John Paul II was in Vancouver to officially open Expo86 and this post reminded me of the John Paul II silver medal I discovered for sale at a Salvation Army Thrift store, now I regret missing out on it. The funds would have done some good in the Salvation Army operations and you'd have it in your collection by now.
