Quilts on Wednesday Walk

Quilts have evolved into things that do much more than just cover beds, seemingly sewn together with a secret mixture of love and tenacity.

Quilts carry memory and meaning, and they also carry myth. Myths regarding quilt making have influenced Americans' perceptions since the American Civil War. Because of their admiration and respect for their colonial ancestors, some Americans in the mid- to late 19th century began to associate quilts with the tenacious, creative, and yet modest colonial Americans who painstakingly pieced them together from leftover fabrics no longer needed for clothing or furnishings. These and other misconceptions about quilts have persisted.

Quilts are to be appreciated simply for their aesthetic value because quilts are largely works of art.

It is amazing to see the work and craftsmanship of the competitors.

"Quilts are made of three layers:

  • Top layer – This is the decorative part of the traditional quilt, featuring a pattern or artwork. It’s usually made of cotton, although other fabrics can be used as well, including velvet, silk, tulle, polyester, and microfiber.
  • Batting – The middle of the quilt, or the batting, is a padded layer that gives the quilt its warmth. Batting is traditionally made of wool, down, feathers, or cotton.
  • Bottom layer – The bottom of the quilt is normally a solid piece of fabric in the same material as the top.
Modern quilts can be hand or machine stitched. The stitching pattern and the top layer work together to create various designs. For example, a wavy stitch pattern offset against a fabric with straight lines. Quilts also come in different sizes. Miniature quilts fit in dollhouses and photo frames, whereas a king-size quilt might be as large as 120 inches by 120 inches."

Just think of the hours of workmanship that go into these quilts @silversaver888!😲
I know there are machines called sergers, that can reproduce detail like this as well, but to think of all the hours when this is done by hand, it’s truly amazing!☺️
By the way……..
Congratulations to you and Ladies of Hive, Liz tells me today is the three year Anniversary!🤗

Yes, yesterday was our 3rd year anniversary! Really, time flies!!!
So making a quilt is worth the patience and sacrifice! I have conceptualized one that tells my story! It is finding the time to do it.

I know that this is possibly the hobby of the competitors but I'm sure it must have taken so much time to put these masterpieces together. They're all really pretty and I particularly like the quilt with the farm animals. Good luck to them.🌺

Become popular, a total work of art in crafting, popular over here with remnants not used, sewing into wonderful patterns, but look at the stitching behind the pattern another work of art.

We have material shops specifically sell off-cuts for people who look for cheaper purchases to buy. Competing entries, greatly stitched pieces.

It would be nice to buy a kit that includes all the woolfelt, floss, and templates needed to complete a quilt!
I wish I had the time. But I should make one... a large quilt... the story of my life, hehehe!

Always admire, minimal sewing here curtains or bed throws that is about it. Fiddly bits like this was my Mom's passion, dolls dresses our clothing, never quilting.

Definitely a hobby many thoroughly enjoy especially with our elder dears who have it down to a fine art.

You are right sis, they are works of art and they are extremely time consuming! I have never done a quilt, although, I would like to try my hand at it sometime. It would just have to be something small so I could see it finished! Maybe when I retire.....

I especially like the one you show of the 'first kiss'. It is sweet! Thanks for sharing and take care my sister!🤗😘💖🍁🍂 !LADY !LUV
