Silver Striker Round: Pirate with Parrot

Of course, you know why I pick-up this Limited Edition Collector's Series Silver Striker round. It has a pirate ship design and an image of a pirate with a parrot!

If you're interested, check out my other Silver Striker Rouds HERE.

This one is from Treasure Bay Casino, Biloxi, Mississippi. I haven't been to Mississippi, have you?

These Limited Edition silver tokens are issued in many casinos throughout the United States, Canada, the Caribbean, and Cruise Ships. The first of these tokens were won from slot machines in the Reno/Tahoe area of Nevada in 1992.1

Some of the slot machines look like these 👇!

So if you're around a casino, you may want to look for silver striker machines and try your luck at winning one. Or if you are like me, just buy them from eBay.

$10 strikes feature a .999 fine Silver center with a Brass outer ring. The Silver content is roughly 0.60 troy ounces. Around 2005, a thinner center insert started showing up, dropping the Silver content to about 0.50 ounces. In 2009, some $10 strikes were produced in CLAD instead of .999 Silver. 1

The classic image of a pirate with an eye patch, peg leg, and a parrot on their shoulder, is largely a product of 19th-century literature, most notably Robert Louis Stevenson's 1883 novel Treasure Island.

IMB_SDb3Ks.gif

Back in the Golden Age of piracy (late 1600s to early 1700s), pirates didn’t look like the over‑the‑top characters we see in movies. They mostly just looked like rough, hard‑working sailors. The whole idea of eye patches and missing limbs comes from how dangerous life at sea was, not from some pirate dress code. And the parrots? Those were simply souvenirs from tropical trade routes. The sailors brought them home because they were fun, exotic companions.

At the end of the day, collecting these casino tokens is just plain fun. They’ve got real silver, they’ve got character, and some of the designs are surprisingly cool. It’s one of those hobbies where the more you dig in, the more interesting it gets.

I didn’t know that the outer ring could easily be detached from the inner @silversaver888 ……. Very interesting!😇

I’ll have to take a look at the ones we have @silversaver, and see if I can weigh the silver separately apart!😊

That is an absolutely gorgeous Striker! I'll have to keep an eye out for that one, I don't think I've ever come across one in that nice of condition, most I've seen are oxidized or fingerprinted. Never been to Mississippi either, never had a reason to... Alabama either come to think of it. But Arkansas and Louisiana several times! lol Even been to Tennessee!

Thanks for sharing such an awesome Silver Strike, it's a shame the machines have basically vanished. But that's how gaming work I suppose...

You know, I posted this for you, since you missed the first one! I know you are into silver strikers, @thebighigg !
I've been to Louisiana several times myself, and every time it had to do with work.
Silver strikers are becoming rare. I'm so glad I have a few interesting designs.
Thank you, @thebighigg. It is good to have you as a friend.

Thank you! You are so kind! All my trips to Louisiana have been work related as well, but I did have time to take in the local flavor on New Orleans and scenery. These were all pre-hurricane, I haven't been back since!

I won it on one of the Slot Machines, brought it to the Cashier’s Cage and asked if I could exchange it for one that looks newer… I’m glad I asked…

In answer to your question: I've not been to Mississippi, but I have crossed the Mississippi!

I'm curious-how did you know they would come apart? How did you separate them? It is a very cool token indeed as the pirate them is always interesting!

Thanks for sharing sis! Much love, hugs and kisses to you! 🤗😘😍❤️🌹 !LADY !BBH !HOPE !INDEED !HBIT

I've only got a few Casino tokens like these. Three I believe. One is the Treasure Island token featuring the parrot. They are 0.6 Troy oz of Ag , equivalent to a Canadian silver dollar by weight.
I forget where I stashed them 🤔

Always, with Love 🤗🌺❤️

!LOL, I am pretty organized, but I somehow forget where rounds and coins are. I guess we have a lot of it. I am missing two fractional gold coins... that's because I constantly change coin containers! But they are just here, for sure... I'd better check again.
I appreciate you, my darling sis!

Thats an awesome piece @silversaver888. Cool design. I believe I have been to Mississippi. Or at least through it years ago on a road trip. I love the US south. Tennessee was my favorite state I visited.

The South always intrigues me! Mississippi is definitively in the American South. In fact, it is considered a core member of the "Deep South," a region known for its historical and cultural ties to the broader Southern United States.I'd like to visit Mississippi, along with Alabama, and South Carolina. I've only been to Georgia and Louisiana. When I am well and have the time, I'll visit the South!!!
