U.S. Modern Commemoratives: 1997 US Botanic Garden Silver Dollar

avatar
(Edited)

Whenever I am presented the opportunity and the funds to do it, I collect U.S. Modern Commemorative Coins. Every commemorative coin is authorized under an Act of Congress.

The United States Modern Commemorative Coin program began in 1982. Silver coins have been issued corresponding to and equal in specifications of classic circulating silver dollars. I have a long way to go, but here are the ones I showed in the past:

American Buffalo Commemorative Silver Dollar

The U.S. Capitol Commemorative Silver Dollar

The P.O.W. Commemorative Silver Dollar

The Star Spangled Banner Commemorative Silver Dollar

Abraham Lincoln Commemorative Silver Dollar

Commemorative Peace Silver Dollar

Commemorative Morgan Silver Dollar

The United States Botanic Garden is the oldest public garden that has continuously operated in the United States. This coin commemorates the United States Botanic Garden and was released on February 21, 1997 to honor the garden’s 165th anniversary.

Located in Washington, DC, it is a living museum of flowers and plants. During the late 18th century, George Washington had a dream of a national botanic garden and by 1820 President James Monroe signed legislation the creation of the U.S. Botanic Garden.

The U.S. Botanic Garden was formally placed under the jurisdiction of the Joint Committee on the Library of Congress in 1856 and has been administered through the Architect of the Capitol since 1934. The Architect of the Capitol has served as Acting Director of the U.S. Botanic Garden and is responsible for the maintenance and operation of the Garden and for any construction, changes or improvements made. - History of U.S. Botanic Gardens

Here is a visual tour of the U.S. Botanic Gardens from YouTube:

The national flower of the USA is the rose. The reverse of the coin shows a rose garland above a rose.

It would be really great if you could collect them all, bit by bit… I so understand the expensive part. I still have to start again collecting, but like I said before… first other things and our big move. It’s delayed again with 2 months. But we are patient 😊

It was getting late and I went to bed.
Just up again and enjoying a cappuccino ☕️
Good morning to you ☀️
Have a wonderful Saturday @silversaver888

Yes, I have been there once when I was 17 with my Mom and Dad! Thanks for asking. It was the reason why I bought this commemorative coin, and featuring it first this year.
Hug and kisses, sis 🤗🌺❤️

Hahaha, it's time for me to give my nails a rest from nail polish for at least one week!
It's been over six months ! Thanks for noticing, @ifarmgirl .
Yes, you are right... this coin goes to my perma-stack... not to be sold.

It's beautiful though :) And if the polish is friendly to your nails then it's probably okay hehe.
The coin is really a collectible. Congrats!💗
