Vintage 1982 GSM Silver Prospector Round

Picking up from 15 days ago when I featured a Vintage Highland Mint 1 Oz Prospector Silver Round, this time it is from Golden State Mint.

Vintage 1982 GSM Silver Prospector Stagecoach Round BU

A prospector kneeling next to a brook and panning for gold is depicted on the obverse. Along the rim beneath the picture is the year of minting 1982, sandwiched by eight stars. Above the prospector is mint's name, GOLDEN STATE MINT.

The one thing that is outstanding about this round is the reverse! The reverse is reminiscent of the 1926 Oregon Trail Memorial Half Dollar.

The reverse features an ox-drawn covered wagon in the center. Walking ahead and beside the ox, the frontiersman is leading it. Above is the composition indicated by the .999 FINE SILVER upper inscription. Below the covered wagon are the mint's initials, G.S.M. and ONE TROY OUNCE.

Many bullion series rounds, like the Buffalo and Aztec Calendar rounds, are produced exclusively by the Golden State Mint. It produces rounds designed by other designers, such as Crescent City Silver's and Silver Shield's series. Many varieties of rounds and bars have been manufactured by them over the years.

Golden State Mint Products
• Prospector Rounds (1980, 1982, undated)
• Standing Liberty Rounds (1986)
• Third party designed rounds (Silver Shield, etc.)
• Fractional rounds (Buffalo, Walking Liberty, Coin Replicas)
• Miscellaneous undated rounds such as Buffalo, Standing Liberty, etc.
• Miscellaneous dated rounds such as Lunar series

That is why I love this particular GSM silver round. It is based on both the 1926 Oregon Trail Memorial Half Dollar and the 1925 California Diamond Jubilee Half Dollar.

The 1925 California Diamond Jubilee Half Dollar coin inspired Engelhard to produce the American Prospector silver round, which is a popular round that was manufactured from 1982 to 1987.

With locations in Central Florida and Southern California, Golden State Mint has been in the precious metals industry for forty years. All of their bullion products are made using both recycled and mined materials. Golden State only offers items that are brand-new; they do not sell products that have circulated through the secondary bullion markets. They specialize in a large range of sizes of bars and rounds made of copper and silver. GSM only use.999 Fine Silver in the creation of every silver product. The bullion rounds from the early 1980s are either unmarked or have the initials G.S.M. or the name of the mint, Golden State Mint.

Love the prospector inspired rounds and coins. My favorite will always be the Engelhard since they were from Jersey.

Me too! Come to think of it, I have three more to go to complete a tube. But they have been so expensive (and so many distractions!). I should focus on them so that I can set them aside forever!!! There's bound to be a seller who is willing to sell one for a low price!

If you look I’m sure you could find one. I’m not quite sure how many that I have.

Both the Obverse, and the reverse of this Golden State Mint silver round, depict how difficult life was for pioneers @silversaver888 🙄
Bent over a gold pan, working in water just above freezing it was a hard life!
Can you just imagine the excitement finding gold after days, weeks or months of hard work !🤗😳🤗

Life was so very hard...cold, mud, dirt—but I'd like to experience gold prospecting just once, hehehe! I'm sure it will be exciting to discover teeny-weeny gold dust!

That was how it was... and still is.
The American prospector is iconic, especially for Sacramento and San Francisco.
Thank you for the dhedge!

Awesome post and I love silver... Gold is awesome too!

In fact a while back I went to silver mining country in Montana and saw some really crazy stuff as well as talk to a really crazy silver minor. For a while there silver bumped up and he was working then silver crashed and the mine shut down and the owner of the mine didn't pay for the labor...

The miner ended up with a brand new truck in a barn instead of pay.

Great post!

Question.
Would it be possible for the SSG community to track and monitor beneficiary rewards from posts others make?

Why not?

I have no reason to think it could not be done. Maybe I should have directed the question with, Would they? and not with be possible.

I started to get into the silver thing. Then the HF 24 came and all sorts went on. However it was a struggle to gain the funding. For myself this would still take a long time.

If a % of a blog (say silverquest account) was sent to an SSG account for savings. The SSG account would gain in HBD interest or HP power.
The one who sends the % is not entitled to any of that reward generated by SSG holding the token in savings.

When a silver coin amount is reached by the % sent then the person would get a choice of available coins.

I save for a token without feeling (seeing or missing the % sent).
The SSG saving account can use a % of each years growth to subsidise postage or other costs.

Just a thought.

Hey sis!.....well sadly, we did not go. I'm kind of bummed. I really wanted to but someone didn't want to go to an 8 PM service as it is kind of late. Plus honestly, both he and I are still fighting this silly bug. He didn't look like he felt good.

The occasion was that today was to be a day of prayer and fasting; we would gather at 8 PM to take communion as a church family and break the fast.

Next time, I'm going! Love ya much sis!🤗💜😘😍🌹💕⭐️
