Vintage 1983 American Pacific Mint Morgan Trade Silver Round

Three months ago, I featured the 1993 American Pacific Mint Peace Trade Silver Round. Today I bring you a vintage Morgan Trade Silver Round, produced 10 years earlier. American Pacific Mint produced Silver Trade Unit with various obverses such as Draped Bust, Peace, Morgan and Eagles.

Originally known as American Pacific Mint Inc., they incorporated in Nevada in September 1965, and later moved to Azusa, California. They purchased Dallas Gold and Silver Exchange in September 1987 for an undisclosed amount. Dallas Gold and Silver Exchange continued operating as a subsidiary of American Pacific Mint. In January 1992, after seeing that subsidiary achieve record results and a 19% jump in profits, American Pacific Mint announced their plan to move their headquarters to Dallas and rename the entire company as Dallas Gold and Silver Exchange.1

Abriged history:
1965 – Incorporation of American Pacific Mint
1987 – Publicly traded American Pacific Mint acquires the assets of Dallas Gold & Silver Exchange
2007 – Dallas Gold & Silver Exchange acquires the assets of Euless Gold & Silver and opens Dallas Gold & Silver Exchange Fort Worth/Euless location
2019 – DGSE Companies, Inc. changes its name to Envela Corporation.

1983 American Pacific Mint Morgan Trade Silver Round

This here is an earlier American Pacific Mint round.

Obverse: A likeness of the Morgan dollar featuring Lady Liberty facing left is shown on the obverse. "AMERICAN PACIFIC MINT" is the name of the mint inscribed above the effigy. The year "1982" is written at the bottom. The date and the upper inscription are separated by four stars on either side.

Reverse: Typical of many trade unit silver rounds, the picture of the scales is the main focus of the reverse. Ivy sprigs on either side of the text "ONE TROY OUNCE" is engraved above the scales. The purity is marked ".999 FINE SILVER" right below the scales and the words "SILVER TRADE UNIT" underneath the purity inscription.

The APM mark is found encircled underneath the scale.

Although the value of a Silver Trade Unit can change depending on the state of the market, it currently ranges between $35 to $40 per unit. Remember that this value might may change based on demand, condition, and rarity, among other things. Certain Silver Trade Units are highly prized by collectors due to their distinctive designs or limited mintages.

I love the silver trade units, they are so cool! Whenever run across these rounds I try to pick them up if the price is right. I'm pretty sure I have a couple if I could just remember where I stored them! I must be getting senile!

That is how I accumulate silver rounds. I buy them only when they are reasonable!
You'll remember where you put them one of these days... and btw, silver and gold keep you young, did you know? Hahaha.

! know... you're huge on 1 gram silver, hahaha!
Seriously, it's understandable! You are Canadian! Copies of your local coins would be good, if you have them. But who needs them if RCM is so prolific at minting all sorts of coins anyway! Ohh, I remember receiving Morgan Rounds for Christmas from a Canadian!

Well, that's how we should be trading. Now we see that the price of silver has been going up for the past two weeks, so that's very good news for those who have been holding it.
