Vintage 1984 Royal Hawaiian Mint Silver Kamehameha Splintered Paddle Round PF

Bernard von NotHaus and Talena (Telle) Jay Presley launched The Mint, as it is called in Hawaii, in 1974. Before the Mint was even a notion, it was merely a way for the little town of Ahualoa on Hawaii's Big Island to honor its culture by minting the state's first coins and utilizing them as a trading tool between friends. The NotHaus Mint was the name of the mint in its early days. It finally expanded to become The Hawaiian Mint. With six facilities over eight islands and a staff of a few dozen employees, it was renamed the Royal Hawaiian Mint in 1986.

Vintage 1984 Royal Hawaiian Mint Silver Kamehameha Splintered Paddle Round PF

Hawaii's first state-registered mint has been faithful to its founding mission of protecting Hawaiiana in precious metals for more than 40 years. The Royal Hawaiian Mint has produced coins to commemorate a number of historical events, including the Polynesian discovery of Hawaii, Captain James Cook's western discovery of Hawaii in 1778, Kamehameha the Great's unification and founding of the Kingdom, the King Kalakaua coinage of 1883, Queen Liliuokalani's overthrow in 1893, the Statehood of Hawaii in 1959, and the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941.

Obverse: The obverse depicts a statue of King Kamehameha. Dressed in royal garb, he holds a spear in his left hand. Inscribed around the edge are the phrases "KAMEHAMEHA THE GREAT" at the top and "KINGDOM OF HAWAII" at the bottom. "CIRCA 1758" is inscribed to the left of the statue while the date "1819" can be found to the right.

The Mint's specialty over the years has been minting gold, silver, platinum, and base metals to honor significant Hawaii-related events. The majority of silver issues are 1 oz in weight, however fractionals have occasionally been struck. Many of the silver releases have a proof-like finish and are coined with.999 Fine Silver.

Reverse: The central images on the reverse include a tiki, a fisherman fishing along the shore, and a splintered paddle. The splintered paddle and tiki have captions. The upper inscription reads "HO'OMALU IA HAWAII" while the lower one specifies the weight, purity, and content of "1 OZ TROY 999 FINE SILVER".

The sound of this word is as lovely as its meaning, which makes it one of my favorite Hawaiian terms. Ho'omaluhia exhorts us to live in such a way that we experience serenity despite the difficulties we face. We experience tranquility. We have been able to achieve this calm and tranquility in our life thanks to our own readiness and self-assurance.

In the past, you could buy vintage silver for cheap. Today, that is no longer the case. I am always on the look out for vintage pieces.

I posed the question on Google, Does Hawaii have gold and silver mines? and I get most of the search engine results as Yes, there are lots gold found in the form of coins, rings and necklaces.... 😂 I had ro ask. The Hawaiian mint would import their gold and silver ha ha.

Aloha, with love 🤗🌺❤️

Hahaha ! Hawaii, an archipelago formed by volcanic activity, is not known for its natural gold deposits. The islands are primarily composed of basalt, a type of volcanic rock, which does not typically contain gold in significant quantities.
Did you know that the Norfed Liberty was also created by Bernard von NotHaus?

The Hawaiian mint is much larger than I expected @silversaver888 !😊
I had no idea that they were minting specially commemorative precious metal coins!
I will need to look into a few of these coins!😊
