Hello friends,

Unfortunately, I have not been able to publish any new posts these days due to an illness that has hit me. Fortunately, today I feel better and am able to share this post with you. I belong to this beautiful community and I want to tell you about a village I discovered some time ago, also in Tuscany. It is called Montecatini Val di Cecina and is located in the province of Pisa. This place is truly fascinating and I invite you to visit it if you have the chance.

As you can see from the first photos, Montecatini Val di Cecina is a small village with just 1600 inhabitants. Unfortunately, many people confuse it with the other Montecatini, which is much more famous in terms of tourism, namely Montecatini Terme. However, even this place, in my opinion, offers many beauties to see. The first thing that strikes you when you arrive in Montecatini Val di Cecina are its old houses and its castle towering above the hill. This place is truly fascinating and I invite you to discover it if you have the chance. Don't be fooled by its size, this village hides many surprises. I hope these photos give you an idea of how special this place is.

In the centre of the village, as in any self-respecting Tuscan village, there is always a beautiful church. In this case, the church of San Biagio is the star of the square and even dates back to 1500, making it very old. Unfortunately, I was not able to visit the inside of the church because I found it completely closed. This often happens when I visit these villages, I find places full of art and history closed and I never understand why. It would be a shame if these beauties were not accessible to the public and their admiration. I hope that these places will be opened and enhanced in the future so that everyone can admire their beauty.

You know very well, if you have already read my posts in the past, that I really enjoy walking along the streets within these small villages, especially here in Tuscany. Sometimes they are really narrow and you can only pass one person, you cannot pass cars, and maybe that is what makes these borghi so special. However, this village of Montecatini Val di Cecina is not far from the sea, about 25 km away, and could be an ideal destination for those who want to combine a visit to art with a trip to the sea. A perfect combination of art, history and natural beauty. Walking along the narrow, cobbled streets of the area, surrounded by the old houses and the breathtaking landscape, will make your experience even more special.

Incidentally, during my visit to Montecatini Val di Cecina, I discovered that not far from here there is an important museum that is well worth a visit, the Mining Museum. You should know that this area of Pisano was a mining area in the past and that it was very important for several years, but like many other mines in Italy, it was closed and the extraction of the various minerals was no longer carried out. The museum is a testimony to the history of this area and its importance in mining, and is an interesting place to visit to learn more about the history of this part of Tuscany.
Unfortunately, caught up in the hustle and bustle of my work, I was not able to visit this museum but I hope to be able to return to visit it in the future because in my opinion it is worth it.

Unfortunately, the downside of small villages like Montecatini Val di Cecina is the limited availability of tourist accommodation. This means that you may have to stay in another area and travel by car. This village, while charming, also has another shortcoming: the lack of restaurants. During my visit, I noticed that there were not many options for eating and I had to move to a nearby village to find a place to have lunch. Despite these shortcomings, the village is still worth a visit to admire its beauty and history.

It is wonderful how these villas preserve the architecture that is undoubtedly the heritage of the country.
