Splinterlands is the number 1 blockchain game. This digital card game allows you to collect cards and battle your way up the ranking.

When you're new to the game, there's a whole lot to digest. you need to learn about cards, stats, abilities, strategies and loads more. For new players, this can be an overwhelming experience.

I see new players arrive on a daily basis. Some of them find their way to the Discord channel or Telegram chat, where they meet all those awesome community members who are always willing to help out and answer questions. Some don't, and these people need to find their own way.

There's loads of information about the game out there, but it's scattered all over the blockchain, and it's not always easy to find the right guides and tutorials that will help a newbie get started.

That's why I thought I'd make a compilation of some of the best beginner tutorials around. After all, it's in everybody's interest that new players are properly introduced to how the game works. The sooner they understand the basics, the sooner they can start enjoying the game.

So, welcome new Splinterlands player. Glad to have you around.
Getting to know how to play the game can seem to be a bit challenging in the beginning, but it's actually easier than it looks.. provided you learn about the basics.

And that's exactly what the tutorials below will provide: a step by step introduction to Splinterlands. Once you've gone through them, you'll have a basic understanding of how the game works, and you're all set to start having fun!

The Basics

Before you get started, it's important that you explore the site, find out what the objectives are, learn some basic terminology and get to know the cards.
All this information is available in the 'How To Play'-section of the game website, but it might be a good idea to watch the video below. In this video, @aggroed walks you through this 'How To Play'-section and discusses all the basics you need to get started.

Once you've watched the video above, you should have a basic understanding of how the game works, and you can try your first battle.

In the tutorial linked to below, @graphtar guides you through your first battle. He shows you how to start your fight, explains about summoners and splinters, and gives you some more information about the basic abilities and how they can be used to set up a strong team.

Daily Quests And Rewards

Once you have a basic understanding of how to play the game, you can start trying to complete goals and earn rewards. Once every 24 hours, the game gives you an assignment in the form of a so called 'Daily Quest'. If you can successfully complete your daily quest, you will get a reward.

In his post 'Splinterlands Rewards Explained', @chrisroberts explains all you need to know about completing daily quests and the potential rewards you can earn for doing so. he also talks about season rewards, and shows you how you can earn the in-game currency (Dark Energy Crystals), simply by winning battles.

Building Your Deck

There's more to Splinterlands than just battling. To climb up the ranks, you will need to improve your deck and make your cards stronger. We call this 'leveling up'.
If you want to climb up the ranks (and earn more rewards), there will come a time that you'll want to take your cards to a higher level.

The higher the level of the card, the stronger the cards becomes.

The way to level up your cards is to combine multiple copies of the same card. You basically 'merge' them into 1 higher level card. (You can get multiple copies of the same card by getting them as a reward, buying them from other players on the market or buying booster packs from the site.)

The number of cards you need to combine to get a card to the next level depends on a couple of factors: the rarity of the card, the edition of the card, and whether it is a gold foil card or not.

It's again @chrisroberts who has written a more detailed guide about combining and leveling cards.

In the tutorial above, he also explains about how summoners are different than monsters when it comes to leveling them up.

It's a question that is asked quite often in the Discord channel: is it more important to level up your summoners or your monsters?

The short answer: YES!

OpenNFT has made a great video in which he explains why you should focus on leveling up your summoners first.

Of course, there's a lot more to learn, but if you've gone through these guides, you should have a basic understanding on how to start playing Splinterlands.

Meanwhile, I'll keep collecting tutorials, and I'm pretty sure there will soon be a follow up post. Make sure you keep an eye out.

If you have questions about the game, don't hesitate to join the community on Discord or Telegram. There will always be someone around who will try to help you out.
