HIVE Meet-Up, Saturday 18th June 2022 (Halifax, West Yorkshire, UK)

avatar
(Edited)

COVID this, COVID that, COVID gone!

COVID messed up most of the HIVE meetings of last year, but I am pleased to announce that there will be another one commencing Saturday 18th June 2022 in the West Yorkshire town of Halifax, England.

When I say ‘commencing’, this is no STEEMFest, and there will be no @roelandp wearing orange duck outfits (unless he wants to come). It's a single-day event and will be FREE.

Cover.JPG

The host, like the previous meetup, will be @c0ff33a, a UK HIVE Witness of some repute. @c0ff33a has generously allowed us to use his premises for the day at ZERO cost.

@shanibeer is dealing with the registrations and created the EventBrite.

I don't know what to call it, technically it should be HIVE-Camp 2 as HIVE was born several months before the last one.

Everything will be informal, so you don't need to wear your top hat or fancy dress. It will be made up of chats, forging bonds, eating, belching, farting, and drinking coffee.

'it is hosted in the wild north after all'…

That 'coffee' part is important as from the time of the last UK HIVE meetup in the summer of 2020, I have been purchasing my coffee from @c0ff33a via mail order..., the very same host.

… and it's great coffee, I wouldn't buy mine anywhere else!

We are planning on providing some food, just some as last time much was wasted due to people dropping out at the last minute.

...'the mid-section of @c0ff33a next to his giant coffee roaster'...

That said, @c0ff33a’s place is quite central to the mid-sized town of Halifax and there are plenty of eateries available if you don’t fancy the freebie food.

I’ll be there from around noon or so and the event will run until around 17:00 or when @c0ff33a gets fed up with us.

Yes, it may seem a long distance to travel but if you are new to HIVE you will find the information you pick up here invaluable.

'unless you think it's some cult like I did in April 2018 when I attended my first. I barely made it out alive'…

If you would like to attend then please register here. It all looks formal, but all we need is your name and email address.

I put ‘Slobber’ and ‘Chops’ as I like to remain anonymous, but the email address needs to be real as a ticket will then be sent to you.

IMG_7141.JPG

'some meetups have been a little too formal for my tastes such as this one. There will be no pens or bits of paper. This was SteemCamp 2 in May 2019. In the picture (left to right): @starkerz, @goblinknackers and @shanibeer, and someone who has now left HIVE'...

It’s all anonymous and nobody will see your email so stop fretting.

All liquid rewards from this post (HBD) will be sent to @c0ff33a to help pay for the food. If that’s not enough then I will add a some more on the day.

Look at you being all social! That is cool that you are having a meet up. How long is that drive for you then to get there? I wish they would do something like this in the states, but depending on where they have it, it could take days to drive there! There has been talk of having a Leo Fest which might be cool. They joke about it on the AMA, but I think it is something they would honestly like to pursue at some point.

The states is too big!, I have driven from Phoenix to LA more than once, 6 hours.., too far. Halifax is not far from me but the road system sucks so it takes an hour to get there. We don't have your Interstates everywhere.

Oooh, I could totally do an hour. I don't mind taking the backroads when I am not pressed for time either. I think we would need to do some kind of regional thing. Even in Michigan that would be tough though. We have a trip planned this summer that is a good six hour drive and that doesn't even take us out of the state!

It does not surprise me, I do miss your country.., it has a certain aura to it.

Two train for you boomy, Glasgow to Preston, and then the Blackpool-York train which stops in Halifax. All fast trains.. none of this stopping at every station crap.

I will have to check it out properly, I just had a quick swatch on Google maps which has historically taken a fair few opportunities to funk me over!

I used to live in Halifax... Nova Scotia! I always wondered what sort of things happened in the UK version of my hometown. Now I have some insight 🙂

It's a mid-sized town.., I have worked there in the past. I can't comment on your Halifax.., have been to Canada but not that town.

I have some FOMO for this, but it's a 3 hour drive each way for me. Will see how things stand nearer the time. By then we may be travelling by horse. I too buy coffee from @whiterosecoffee and it's great.

@shanibeer tells me that weekend there's cheap hotels. You could do an overnight?

That is a possibility. I'll look into it.

Just checked and I have an afternoon band gig the next day, so it could be a bit of a rush.

Before oil was wood. You can decide to be dependent and stuck, or you can decide to move on.

Not pretty but it works!

I've heard of that before. I know in the early days of cars some were steam powered and actually electric cars were there at the start. Petrol/gas is getting pretty expensive, but I don't drive much anyway.

I know there are many more options than the two they give most. Oil or electric. Right /left Honestly IMO it is all a designed control system.

Why they fly around in jets claiming global warming. Gosh now Putin is the NEW Boogy man behind all that is wrong in the world.

You cant listen to anything they say now it is all blatantly false. Much of it seems like a vengeful enemy putting a finger in our face.

but I don't drive much anyway.

I bought a Kawasaki KLR 650 motorcycle when this began 2 years ago. Then I can still travel when the gas price is $100usd a gallon. My F 250 gets 12 miles to the gallon.

Man, this is really tempting. @guthrie has always wanted to see London and his birthday is June.

You being there would be something special, though I fear it a long ways north of our capital.

do a hive meetup at stone henge!!!!!

Hive meetups should be all on teh same day so we all party and go home and talk about what we did - synced up like old TV when teh whole country watched something together

Very nice, meetups like this are very valuable especially for newbies. I gain so much insight from one held by @starstrings01 here in Nigeria. Thanks for this!

Aaayy I will certainly make an attempt to be there assuming I don't wimp out over anxiety as I have a feeling this one could have a lot more people there this time.

But... the coffee thoooo.... Man.. I just need to remember there is coffee and that should overcome the anxiety xD

Question are the tickets like super enforced? Just wana know if I need to get my dad to register as well since he will be coming too or if I can just have him tag along regardless.

I could see you were uncomfortable last time, but now I know you.. I will chat with you. Hope you can make it.., and like many of the past events.. I don't think it will be busy.

Why do you think I'm going! 😀

Not enforced, it's to give @shanibeer an idea of the numbers. Bring your dad along again.

I want to talk to you about Witnesses and how it was for you setting it all up.

It would be an honour to finally meet the gurus of this platform in person!

While 'up north' is advertised as grim. Having toured the whole region i can tell you it's far from grim. It's stunningly beautiful. I'm up for a meetup 👨‍💻👍

I'm determined to make it to this get together. I'd planned to meet up with @c0ff33a yonks ago when I was passing Leeds but time was against me on that occasion.

I wanted to try out a selection of his coffees ☕☕ for reference purposes re blending.

I'm thinking of making a video of the meeting if everyone is agreeable?
Not a deal breaker if people want to be anonymous.

I've got a few videos from very early in our development as a community so it would add to this little historical archive. 🎬📹👍

So long as you don't try and 'interview' me like @hashcash did in Krakow. Thankfully the footage never made it online.

Haha don't worry most of the stuff I shoot never sees the light of day.

I've done a few of the meetups and fests which are dull as dish water unless you're into our crypto. 😂😂🎬📹👍

I filmed @starkerz badly years ago in Cambridge and the camera was basically looking up his nose the whole time! 😂😂

I did upload it because the message was great but the videography was dire!

In case you read this. Sorry Mat 😇👍

It's a bit of a long drive for me but very tempting. Will decide shortly as I have a lot going on to plan around.

Is there a deadline to register?

Thanks for this @slobberchops! This is gonna be epic, so a big thank you for hosting, @c0ff33a 🤗

@shanibeer - quick question. Do you need me to register for two tickets for Ben & I, or will the one I've registered for do, please? (It's got our username of planetauto on it)

@planetauto - Hi Annabelle, can you register for each of you please? (Saves my memory) 😍. If it's one HIVE account, use the same account name for each person.

Look forward to meeting you!

Might possibly, hopefully, defo want to be there 🙂

Planning ahead isn't my forte as I can just be taken out of commission quite quickly with this stupid chronic illness thing that has been fckn with me for years. But, I've got used to the rhythms of it now and when I'm well I'm certainly well enough to jump a train to Halifax. I think it would only take one change in Manchester.

I'll check the trainline for bargain tickets nearer to June. Would be good to meet more people, and also you at last @slobberchops (although you might recognize me as the quiet guy from Steemfest 3 who loitered about not saying much😂) & @c0ff33a who I buy most of my coffee from as well.

I'll put the date in my phone as a definite maybe.

I was the same at SF3, too new into the arena and found it overwhelming. SF4 was better.

Hope you can make it. I am in your area every now and again but always for explores such as that Welsh Church that I finally managed to get into recently.
