Rising Star - HIVE Blockchain Game Review

avatar
(Edited)

There seems to be quite a bit of hype about the ‘new to me' game Rising Star that is gaining popularity within the HIVE world.

Level2 Quest.JPG

Does it deliver any kind of entertainment value?

It does have my attention for the moment and looks to have more potential than Holybread.io which was the last one I tried a few months ago.

Holybread.io died a death but has been resurrected and is still going, though I rarely log-in anymore.

image.png

...'no BOTS is good, resetting all is not. Let's hope this does not happen as it wont be popular'...

What concerns me about Rising Star is that it is a dev-game again. What happens if and when @risingstargame gets bored and ceases development?

I have to raise this concern as this is just what happened to holybread.io

Now that I have gotten over the negatives, let me resume my opinion of Rising Star.

Balances.JPG

It takes little time to play and is along the lines of holybread.io and our old friend drugwars, which is also still going.

The game places you in the position of becoming a rock, punk, pop, goth idol with fans, ego, fame, and skill to juggle and deal with.

SpecialMissions.JPG

Missions start without having to cost you anything as a player with the special mission, 'BattleGame Friday Gig' which will earn your 100 BATTLE tokens.

I started doing this mission thinking, 'free tokens' but realized it uses 65% of your Energy.

image.png
...'the energy bar is at the top, clicking the yellow plus symbol allows you to use stored pizza or coffee for a boost!'...

Energy in HIVE terms is voting power and with it, the same replenish of time effect which is 8 hours until full again.

BasicMissions.JPG

Illegal Busking is the repeatable mission I would recommend to the new user as it only uses 15% of your energy, takes only 5 minutes, and gives you a chance of receiving some pizza or coffee.

image.png

Pizza will completely refresh your energy back to 100% while Coffee makes it refresh quicker over time. Both are very useful.

The game needs to generate some money (crypto) and it does by having a player marketplace.

image.png

...'pizza boxes and coffee cups are reusable items'...

I have bought a pizza box (for storing pizza), a coffee cup (for storing coffee), 10 fans, and an R7 Vintage Synth giving me 50 fame.

Larger fame increases the chance of free prizes after each mission, these being coffee and pizza. I am now at the stage where I can keep going as I get these freebies often enough that my energy keeps refreshing.

image.png

Each mission yields Starbits as a token (similar to DEC – Splinterlands). These can be used to trade on hive.engine, or to buy items such as what I have described.

image.png

Other tokens can be used to buy items such as BATTLE, CCC, ATOM, and even BEER. It depends on the seller and what he/she wants in exchange for the cards.

As well as Starbits, levels are earned and these are what restrict the better quests and you moving up to become that rock icon.

image.png

It's not just levels, but fans and skill are also needed.

image.png

On gaining level 10, one can take singing lessons which will give you skill points. As well as these, you can buy skill cards which will permanently raise skill.

image.png

Booster packs can be purchased for 5 HIVE or Starbits (if you have enough). Each pack contains 3 cards, one being rare or better.

It takes a couple of hours to settle into Rising Star, but there is a lot of potential if it can keep going.

image.png

Early adaptors gain a free avatar card, and you just need to ask to get one. Mine is the Bedroom DJ who gives me 10 fans.

It is worth getting one of these, as they are limited and will no longer be given out once the game officially releases.

Ask @risingstargame in a DM via Discord for a free card, the channel being here

This game is very passive, it doesn’t need an active browser tab to run and is quite good fun.

image.png

...'just a cheap guitar, the only way is up'...

I would say, invest a little for now as I am concerned about the longevity of the project. You can make a little BATTLE, but don't look at it as some kind of cash cow as it's not.

Please use my referral link as I haven't even got one so far, its here thank you.

I really wasn't aware you could just claim one of these early adopter cards, thanks for pointing that out!

Thanks, the holybread thing did bother me. I dished out around 55 HIVE on that, not a lot but it was annoying.

I struggle with the fact that these things aren't mobile friendly.

Ah cool then but that looks limited. I'm talking full access.

I play splinterlands with my phone and the experience is just meh. Isn't there a way for us to have mobile wallets that Grant access?

Back when I use to play EOS Knights, I used a mobile wallet to grant permissions.

The mobile version here is presented via a QR code you can use to create a unique url in to your Rising Star account. It is a little wonky, as the browser tends to forget you and asks you to login again. But you can still find the missions and give them a start from the mobile version. It has the same screen issues that Splinterlands tends to. But it is still a work in progress, so I will give them some time on this one.

Hi @belemo. As others have said you can play on mobile and we need to fix the issue of it logging out too often. The only thing you can't do on the mobile version is trade the cards as that requires the Hive Keychain but all other features are accessible.

Thanks!

alright let me give this a little shot with your refferal. How much did you invest in there to get started to have a decent play?

I think you need the pizza box, coffee cup for sure to keep things moving. I used some currencies I had hanging around in hive.engine for those. The vintage synth was a bargain at 4 HIVE, and all that fame gives me lots of coffee and pizza!

So maybe 10 HIVE in all, not so much for some fun.

This one slipped me by, will have to try it as it does look interesting but like you, I have the same concerns with most games

These passive ones are good fun, and use little time. You should give it a crack!

I like that it actually features music. The various instruments and musicians can play together plus you can listen to tracks from real Hive musicians whilst you play. I have submitted a track for that. I plan to buy a few more cards and see how it goes. Up to level 6 already. May be my only chance of rock stardom!

Up to level 6 already.

You're kicking my arse, only level 5. Not sure how you are levelling so quickly.

I got enough drunk fans to do the mid-week support. Lost them now, so back to busking. Just bought a pack, so will see what I get.

Thank you for the feedback and maybe I can put your mind at rest a little regarding the longevity of the game.

Firstly the caveat about the option to reset the statistics can probably be removed now. That was there for the early phases of the game in case a major bug caused everyone to gain a zillion STARBITS. Right now we have been running smoothly for a couple of months and no such bug has arisen so no reset has even been required.

Regarding the "if we get bored" statement. Now you are going to have to take my word for this or you can ask around in my other discord server if you want to know about my commitment to projects as I have been running Atom Collector Records for many years including a weekly live show featuring independent music from Hive musicians as well as giveaways for Rising Star. Also @steevc can vouch that I have been committed to supporting independent musicians on Steem and now Hive for at least 3 years.

Now yes there is a risk that I get run over by a bus tomorrow but I keep away from roads most of the time! :P But yes I am the only dev on the project and then others help with graphics and sound/music for the game so that is a risk. But the upside is that the costs are minimal as I have no other people to pay and the hosting is peanuts. I actually develop this game as a hobby and it does not need to generate a fortune for me to continue. It is already generating enough to cover the server costs.

I am a musician and a coder and I love both. This game allows me to do both and also help other independent musicians get their music heard via the in game radio. I will not get bored with the game as I have so many ideas for future features so there will always be something new to do. Plus the community we have already is awesome and I love to interact with enthusiastic people!

I hope that helps to ease your worries a little but feel free to chat to me in discord if you have any other concerns. I'm always open to feedback!

Thanks and good luck on your journey to mega stardom!

P.S. This post gives you one entry into the weekly prize draw to win a booster pack.

Thanks for making something cool, it does bother me that out of all these chain games that only Splinterlands has stuck around and is making some waves. The space game (can't even remember its name) went down recently and people lost a lot after showing faith in it.

Those Legendary planets cost a lot, ask @revisesociology. These are my concerns in not just your game but all of them.

I am enjoying it, and will keep playing, I know you have been around forever (@musicvoter I think), and longer than me. I wish you luck with this, and hope it evolves to something big.

It is a valid concern and I think all these games should be viewed as a way to have fun and not an investment but if you happen to make some profits then it's a bonus.

My plan will always be to make it as much fun as possible and not a way to farm coins.

i love your thoughts about having fun in Crypto games, but you will see, 90% of all dont play em for fun , they play to maximize the income, and they will take a look to create CHEATS and Bots to gain much more

It will be an ongoing battle to outwit the bots but we have plenty of data to analyse and we already have systems in place to detect the obvious ones (there have been a few already).
I am not naive enough to think that we can detect all of them but with the help of the community informing us of any they think are suspicious we can keep improving on the way we detect them and stop them.

What I like with RS.com is that it does not reinvent the wheel... and by so it eases also the dev side, as it uses the existing hive-engine for most of the exchanges and tokens, only a few lines of code are needed to send tokens to hive-engine and for the market.

It has several inovations : Music composer(band manager), mobile link allowing to play missions while travelling, it allows you to play for as many different tokens as the player's community want so it is not glued to starbits, same with market.

And as he said, it also features independant artists allowing them some visibility (ingame radio, ingame tracks), so, it's more than just a game...

I like it, so I invest a bit in it, I play it and I even accepted to be support on their discord. <- so yes I believe in that project.

I think it is great that all of these games are coming out on the chain. I'd like to see something new and innovative though. I feel like a lot of them are just remakes of other games with different skins. I know we need to start somewhere, but I also feel that Splinterlands set the bar pretty high and no one else has been able to come close to it.

There are many, most I don't look at.. this one is music based and as Im a music freak, it drew me in. It's good fun, have a go.. costs nothing.

great review, as a very good friend of @risingstargame i can confidently assure you that he is totally committed , obsessed even, to the growth and longevity of this game. Everything he does hes puts 110 percent into, i would not have jumped on board to help out if i thought any different

no Free Tokens here friend, swing by Friday night, you're on at midnight 🤘😛

Also I want to put in a good word for the dev, who is super committed to the project. From what I have observed the rate at which he is iterating on development is very fast, a constant flow of new and fun features are rolling out!

Ever since the day @atomcollector announced to us in his community that he was developing a new game and he wanted us to be a part of it, he has been ON IT NON-STOP! There have been updates several times a week, alot of times daily. The first few weeks when some in the community started playing the game, testing it and ironing out the bugs, I didn't participate. I was busy trying to get my cd done and ready for release, and frankly I wasn't interested because I'm not a gamer. Everytime that I would go to the discord, tht's ALL EVERYONE was talking about. I actually started to feel left out, but that was my choice. Then the day that he introduced the first musician card, The Legendary Bass Player @trentonlundy (That's me 😁) I felt terrible about not helping my friends out test the game so I dove right in. A month later I am totally addicited. When I'm making music , half of my brain is trying to figure out ways to get ahead,(or trying to figure out what the heck SwapHive is) instead of focusing on my music :). I said all that to say I am extremely impressed with the amount of time, effort, and creatiity that he has given to this project. I now run the facebook page for Risingstar, and if I don't stay on top of things, he will have 5 or 6 updates to the game before I even post 1 to the page! I am truly honored to be a part of such a cool, funktaboulas community! Long Live @RisingStar 😎

I love the fact he's using real musicians (like you) and suggested that you should have your own copy of you.. does that make any sense?

I also pulled 'you' just yesterday in a pack. That 10k of skill has made a lot of difference, I tell ya!

There are plenty more HIVE musicians I would like to see within the game, will do a post about this soon. Good to hear from you again!
