Freshers Week: Tourist Sites

I honestly can’t remember when I started making this post but I know it’s long overdue

Still on our freshers week celebration, our next activity on Saturday was a trip to see the tourist sites around. With this year being my 4th year on campus, I have already being to all these tourist site so it wasn’t really as exciting for me. I just had to be there.

Our first stop was at the Paga crocodile pond. I had written about my experience there when I first got on hive. And this summed up to my third time of being there so I wasn’t really excited about it.

We came in different buses and ours was the last. So when we arrived, others were already having their pictures taken with the crocodiles.

I wasn’t really interested but my friend wanted to take pictures with my phone so I went down to see the crocodiles with her.

I stood and watched for a while then a random dude came to take pictures with us.

He was talking with my friend so I assumed they knew each other so I just played along and I wasn’t even in the mood to take any pictures. I don’t know but I found the guy quite irritating but I just had to be cool only to find out later that my friend doesn’t even know him too. She said they spoke for the first time while we were in the bus coming to the place and that was all. They guy is going round telling his friends we are his wives. Now that I think about it, maybe he thousand were level 100s.

We went round to the other side where they were taking turns in taking pictures sitting on a horse.

I had a headache so I left and went to sit outside with my friend till everyone was done and it was time to leave.

Our next location was a slave camp which I have already been to as well.
We got there and they started sharing snacks for the students. I wanted to get some for myself but we first had to ensure all the students got and that’s how I didn’t get anything.

But luckily there was a guy selling some drinks nearby and I got one of those.

The tour guide briefed the students about the slave camp and then we went round to see where the slaves lived.

We went up these rocks and that was just it. They lived on the rocks.

There were holes in these rocks(not deep though, didn’t get any pictures cause my phone died) and that was were food was served for the slaves.
There are larger holes too with water in them and that’s were the slaves drank from.

The land below the rocks was were they used to dance.
The guide demonstrated to us how the music was produced from the rocks and how they danced.

Then we moved to a different side where the ‘watch tower’ is located. This is where the slave master wound stand to watch over the camp and ensure that no one escaped. Those caught were instantly killed or sent to the ‘punishment rock’.

The slave is made to sit on the rock with their feet and hands tied to it. Then they look into the sun from dawn to dusk.
The other slaves were brought around to watch for it to serve as a deterrent to them. Some of them turned blind after such experiences.
And should one continue to break the rules, they were kill and buried just there.
We were shown they graves where they said they were large holes dug to accommodate so many dead bodies. So they kept burying people in them till it filled up then they close it.

I missed most parts of the tour because I was just looking to get back to the hostel and have a rest.

We quickly made our way back to the buses and back to school.

I remember my first time of seeing the crocodile. I was so scared that I couldn’t even go near neither to talk to taking a picture with it.

The thought that came in mind was what if it changes it’s mind 😂😂😂

Excursions are always the best. A place far from home to explore nature gives us a different view of the world. Next time you are going, just hit me with an invite. I will be there.

Is that your friend? My mind dey. Link me up. I dey beg😅😍
