Life update: it’s been a stressful month

I haven’t been on hive for about a month now. The reason being that I’ve had so much going on in my life. I’m not even sure if I can remember everything but I will try to remember as much as I can. The two major things were politics and exams even though there were so many other headaches.
From my introduction post, I mentioned I was an executive in my department but this time I aimed higher. I aspired for the General Secretary of the Student Representative Council (SRC).

Start of election process

SRC elections were supposed to come off a long time ago but times haven’t been normal in my school and everything was happening at the last minute and in a rush.
First had to release a flyer declaring my intention to contest. Then I started going round hostels to talk to the students and ask for their support. All this with exams two weeks away and I was totally unprepared
We were given just two days to pick up and file our nomination forms.

The next day after submitting the forms was vetting. I wasn’t so tensed about it because I’ve been on a vetting panel as I mentioned in this post so I already knew what was expected of me. This was on a weekend and we had just a week to start exams. And the week before the exams was the SRC week celebration. Imagine all this with exams staring right at you.

SRC Week Celebration

The week started on Monday with a seminar on career guidance. I was at the event but I didn’t take any pictures because I was so stressed and taking pictures was the last thing on my mind. They gave all aspirants the opportunity to introduce themselves to the students.

Tuesday was ‘rep your school’. It was basically about dressing up in your high school uniform. I don’t have any high school uniform with me so I just went about doing my campaign.

Wednesday, we had a skills training organized by the women’s commissioner where we were taking through liquid soap making and beads making. I got there late and they were already done with the liquid soap. But I took part in the beads making.

This was me trying to figure out what the instructor was saying.
We were making key holders from beads. I didn’t get any pictures of that too. The next thing was making waist beads but I had a headache from all the stress and I was quite hungry. I just needed to make an appearance as part of my campaign.
There was a float later that day but I didn’t take part. I used part of the time to study a little. Then I spent the rest of the evening moving from hostel to hostel.

Thursday was supposed to be the election but it didn’t come off because one of the presidential aspirants was disqualified after the vetting so he wrote a petition to the judicial council and we had a court hearing.

Friday was artist night. They brought a well known artist to perform and well as student artists around. I didn’t attend that one too because for reasons I can’t even remember.

Saturday was a dinner night. I had already made up my mind to attend it by all means because I had missed one some weeks ago. I called my friends to confirm the time we should go and they both said they’ve changed their minds and would not be attending. I still had to go anyway.

When I got there, the place was already packed but @zzzinnn managed to find a spot for us. They started the event with live band music which I’m really not a fun of. So I just sat there not knowing what to do. The only thing I was now looking forward to was the food cause what’s a dinner without food. We waited forever for our turn to be served and it never came. While waiting, we took a few pictures.

When we realized there’s no hope in waiting for the food anymore, we decided to take a few more pictures and leave. The only good thing about the event was taking good pictures with @zzzinnn.

On Sunday, I had to prepare for the exam the next day and that was basically what kept me busy throughout the week while still trying to squeeze time to campaign. The election was scheduled for the next Sunday.

On Saturday before the election, I wrote a paper which started at 2:00 pm. Then we were scheduled to meet the electoral commission to be briefed about how the system that will be used for the election works. We waited for them for over 4 hours before the meeting started.
I still had a couple of hostels I wanted to go to so I called a friend to pick me up with a motorbike around 9:30 pm.
We went to a number of hostels and when I finally got to my room, it was around 11:30 pm.
The next day, I got dressed and went round again reminding people to go out to the polling station to vote.
I was tensed because the gap between i and my competitor wasn’t much and he could easily overtake me at any point.
All in all, the election ended and I won but I lost my AirPods whilst moving around. I still think about it every single day.

The next day, I had a paper to write at 9:00 am. I was so tired from the previous night that I slept when I got to the hostel. I set an alarm to study at midnight and I wasn’t able to. Long and short, I don’t know what I wrote in that paper. I just hope I don’t have to take the course again.

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, I had no paper to write and I wasn’t studying too.
I started studying late Thursday night for the exam the next morning.

After all this stress, time to go home and relax and I usually go home the next day after my last paper but I’m still here because the outgoing SRC executives are to hand over to us and a date hasn’t been fixed yet.
I have a couple of things to do as well.
And even though the election and exams stress is over, there are still so many things coming up this October and I don’t know how, but I know I will survive it.

Of course you won’t mention the fact that there was a dance floor opened and you were stuck in your seat.
I wasn’t in this particular picture because I was on the stage dancing while this pretty face was stuck there like she came with the seat.

I’m still having headaches from the stress of the past few weeks. Back to back to back; political campaign, week celebration, electoral processes, exams, elections, and more exams. All within 3weeks!
How did we survive this?!!

Upon all this stress, this smart face still went into the elections and won with a record over 200 votes gap. I’m proud you betes!

Lemme remind you that what you were doing wasn’t dancing, you were just hopping around.

Even though you try to deny it, what ever I was able to do during this election, is all thanks to you.

You must have had a really busy week. I understand how an election feels; walking around campaigning is one of the most laborious parts of the electoral process, and I'm glad your efforts paid off. Congratulations!

And I had to leave out so many things cause I didn’t want it to be a long read.

Just realized today is your birthday. Happy birthday. I hope there’s a party

Yes. I suggest you could tell us about each of them in a different post. I’m sure you have to lot to tell about the events of SRC week. Myself, I’m writing a series detailing the events of each theme of the SRC week.

Oh and thank you for the birthday wish. Unfortunately, the party is not today. I’ll let you know when(if) we’ll have one another time:)

Thank you.
I guess you never really know what you are capable of until you are confronted with such tasks.

If someone had told me I would do this, there’s no way I would believe it
