In a big town called Oshromo, there lived a man named Dayo, he was hardworking and got married to three wives they had lots of sons and daughters, they all lived in a little building in a thick forest, but the space wasn't enough for them, there were used to the life they were living.

Three out of the seven sons of Mr Dayo were hunters, Azikwe , Nnamdi and Icha, Azikwe was the eldest amongst his siblings with a slim and tall body posture he was calm and funny he gained the respect he deserved amongst his siblings, Nnamdi and icha the twins were vertically challenged the medium sized twins were troublesome but fun to be with.

On a Saturday morning Azikwe woke up early as usual and started preparing for the task ahead of him he picked up his chewing stick washed his hands legs and face then now made use of the chewing stick and he left for hunting that day.

Mr Dayo’s family had no belief in any God they all lived happily his first daughter Ezinne was really an epitome of beauty, Mr Dayo believed that she picked after her mother mrs dayo who on the other side was caring, hardworking and still beautiful despite the stress and the life they lived.

Azikwe was the eldest amongst them all with Ezinne the twins haliyu , kalu, wale , kole , badu, sophia and Betty,

Azikwe got to the normal site and bush where he sets his trap at times and then waits for the prey to fall for it. When he got there this other prey was different he was shocked but it called for his attention this time he had to stay low and focus, with his mouth opened he kept on looking in a full view and what he saw was a white beautiful creature that looked like a mermaid he got scared at first but had to move closer it looked like a human but the complexion he saw really caught his attention, He pulled out his gun and pointed at the creature.

"Please, don’t pull the trigger"

I am human like you but am lost

Please don’t!!

The white lady said,
Azikwe looked at her and said

I don’t know what you are but here,
I shoot what I see, and my animals don’t talk to me

He looked scared and kept on moving backwards till he was about 3 meters away

What are you?

And why do you talk back at me?

Azikwe yelled

I don’t have a place to stay and am lost please can you help me?

Something happened to our plane
The white lady replied

Azikwe moved backwards and ran off the site he ran as fast as he was able to,
He jumped inside and was shivering but looked scared,

Azikwe!

Mr Dayo shouted!!

What has happened to you my son?

Speak as early as don’t keep me waiting

With azikwe on his knee

Father is it right to help a thing even if you don’t know what it is?

Azikwe asked looking at his father with a lot of pressure

You don’t help a thing because you know what that thing is

You help a thing because it is the right thing to do my son

And if you ran into my house when something out there needs your help it’s better you help that thing before you come back home and explain what is going on with you azikwe go and come back but be careful!

Azikwe just ran off without hesitating he jumped and ran as fast as a cheetah,
When he got to his normal spot he now rushed to where he saw the white creature to his surprise he was the only person at the spot, he looked back but there wasn’t a single creature so he kept on walking and shouting,

Where are you come out I am here I will help you please just come out I will not pull the trigger I won’t even try pulling the trigger.

He yelled but this time everywhere was calm
He felt bad and sat under the big iroko tree
Bitting his lips hard with tears dripping down his cheek with time he dozed off for a few seconds and drooled, about an hour he woke up and was on his way back home weak and tired whit his whole body filled with sweat.

Azikwe now tell me what happened ?

Azikwe narrated the whole thing that happened to his father at the same time with an advise to be careful with things and to always be of help to people.
He regretted his actions towards the whole thing, since the incident azikwe decided to be more brave and fearless despite the circumstances he faced, after a week he got in contact with the white lady, this time he was bold enough to confront her.

Please don’t pull the trigger!

She looked up at him and smiled,
she told him the whole story of what really happened to her,
With time they got to know each other well and they later on became friends

They got so close at a point she changed azikwe’s mentality and they both influenced their community, that’s how Oshromo community got civilized.

This story has the characteristic of origin stories, it tells how the world and beliefs of a people were before major changes. Azikwe along with her new friend started the story. Thank you for writing this story in The Ink Well, @smilejerry.
