Today, we talk about quality and clamour for it. Quality seems to be the new ideal on which everything is judged.

Many people can't joke with quality and hate it when it is undermined.

If you notice, virtually all blogging platforms mention 'quality' as what they want to see on their platforms.

These platforms don't negotiate with quality. Anything that is not 'quality' is either pushed down so that it wont be seen.

Many of these platforms create features that make sure such post they consider 'low quality' are pushed down or lack visibility.

On Hive, such posts are ignored with no likes. We know likes (upvotes) are what shows a post is okay and should be read or visible.

In some cases, such are downvoted to show displeasure and warn writers that such are not allowed on the platform.

On Uptrennd and Minds, posts considered low quality are downvoted. Downvotes are things many don't want to see but to avoid it, one needs to produce what is considered quality writeup to meet up with the platform standard.

But what is quality? Can it be defined? Is it holistic? Do we all have agreement on what count as quality as against what is not?

Quality can be defined as:

The standard of something as measured against other things of a similar kind; the degree of excellence of something. Source

From the above, it is clear that quality is linked with standard. This standard is used as yardstick for which other things are judged.

While this sounds like there is an agreement on standard, we know there is no such thing.

As human beings, we all have standards. These standards are not always the same. In fact, they conflict with one another.

A religious person for instance will use is religious sight to view and judge post as quality or not.

Such person will over look a philosopher like me who argue against God or anything he stands for.

In such case, can we say my post lack 'standard' or it simply didn't meet the standard of the judge who is to like (upvote) my post?

Some have linked standard with words and length of post. For some, a post of 300 words is considered quality'. For others, it should be minimum of 500 words.

We know, many of these posts are still not liked or upvoted despite meeting the minimum words required.

Perhaps, you are wondering why? The simple truth is there is no consensus on what counts as quality. We are human and judge based on what we personally consider quality as against what is not.

I have taken my time to write 1000 words before with the hope of getting huge likes. Fortunately, i got 1$ on the post and i was happy i did. Why, because i wont get such on Facebook.

I have also written 300 words and got over 1$ on it. This shows the post appeal to someone who thinks it is of quality.

My point? Just make sure you are the real author of your posts. That is the first thing to do.

Make sure that when you write, your target is minimum of 300 words. Personally, i don't write less than 300 words.

Quality is nothing but personal perspective. It is subjective. Just like beauty being in the eye of the beholder, so also quality.

The judge or the person liking or upvoting you determines if it is quality or not but such person will consider the length of the post first which should guide your writing.

Note, your post must be yours totally. You must start and end it. If you pick anything online like my definition above, it must be properly referenced.

In fact, avoid doing such. If you must, let it take 2-3% of your writing. That way, you give yourself a better chance of getting likes on your posts which means people see reason in what you posted.

Remember, let your posts be written by you. In the end, you will look at them and be proud of what your brain produced.

Thanks for your time.
