My mushroom first harvest

Hello hivers and homesteading community. This is my first time here and I am glad to be here

💮💮💮💮💮💮💮💮💮💮💮💮💮💮💮

Everyone have known the value of agriculture. In my area, hardly will you see a compound with no garden. It is either they have some vegetables or poultry. You won't blame them because things are very difficult these days. At least if you have food to eat, it will go a long way for you.

My handbook

So sometime in October, I told myself that I was going to diversify into something different from the usual vegetables and livestock farming. I heard of a training solely on mushroom farming and I thought it will be great to be a mushroom farmer and so i decided to go for the training. The training lasted for three days and thereafter we were told to start our own produce ourselves and see how far we can go by doing what we were taught ourselves. We were given substrate and asked to keep them in a cool place and observe them for some time.

The substrate

The procedure for getting the substrate ready is done in a dark room. The materials for this substrate production includes water (about 80litres), rice barn, saw dust and calcium carbonate. When preparing the substrate, you have to wash your hands properly and take away your phone and also ensure that germs are far away. I couldn't take pictures at this stage because of the high risk of germs. After preparation, it is then taken to a cool place, ready for fruiting.

I watered mine every morning and evening. I thought it would sprout at least after one week from when I got the substrate but it didn't. I got worried because I had plans of selling them at least. I had already started telling people about my new line of business and I got some persons who were interested. They started calling me after one week and I was just giving them excuses. I felt so very bad about it.

the sprouting stage

Luckily just on Monday, I saw that it had started sprouting. I was so happy about it. From that day, it started spreading everyday until I harvested it this morning. See how fresh it is. Now I am ready for my business. I have intentions of exporting them. Mushrooms are very good for everyone. I did a little research on it and discovered some very great benefits of mushrooms. Such as:

  • Mushrooms are highly rich in Vitamin B
  • Mushrooms help in muscle growth
  • Mushrooms are great for memory loss
  • Mushrooms helps you to sleep because it contains chlorine which is a very good nutrient

My mushroom is ready

I am so glad that my mushroom is fruiting already. Apart from exporting, I also intend to give my first harvest to some elderly people around me. Since it is great for memory loss, it will be so wonderful to give them to enjoy for the time being. Subsequently I will also reduce the price I will sell to them too.

Now that my first attempt is successful, it is time to get a big room to produce in very large quantities for business.

I am also looking forward to enjoying my mushroom too. There is a way my grandmother usually prepares mushroom soup and since I have mine growing for me now, I will enjoy myself with a plate of goodness.

How do you love eating your mushrooms?
