A new excursion through the forest, river and mountain of Los Maleteros - Venezuela / Una nueva excursión por el bosque, el río y la montaña de Los Maleteros - Venezuela

A couple of years ago I went to this place for the first time and it was an incredible experience. Some friends who own a plot of land there invited me, and I didn't miss the opportunity.

Hace un par de años fui por primera vez a este lugar y fue una experiencia increíble. Me invitaron unos amigos que tienen una parcela allí, y no desaproveché la oportunidad.

My sister was invited that time too, but she didn't feel like going. Later, she saw my photos and regretted it, so recently, when they invited us again, she didn't hesitate to go and see this beautiful place.

Aquella vez mi hermana también estaba invitada, pero no se animío a ir. Luego vio mis fotos y lo lamentó, así que hace poco, cuando ellos nos volvieron a invitar, no dudó en ir a conocer este bello lugar.

Located at the end of Los Maleteros neighborhood in La Victoria, Aragua state (Venezuela), this natural area features a forest, a river, a small waterfall, and mountains. Several fields, primarily belonging to the local residents, can also be seen.

Ubicado al final del barrio Los Maleteros de La Victoria, estado Aragua (Venezuela), esta zona natural posee bosque, río, una pequeña cascada y montañas. Se pueden ver también varios sembradíos, que pertenecen principalmente a la gente que vive por aquí.

We arrived at the place shortly after 7:00 am, and after stopping for coffee at the house of Joan's parents, Betty's husband, who are the friends who invited us, we went into nature.

Llegamos al lugar poco después de las 7:00 am, y luego de pasar a tomar café por la casa de los padres de Joan, el esposo de Betty, que son los amigos que nos invitaron, nos adentramos en la naturaleza.

We walked through the forest and a few minutes later we arrived at the most well-known point of this trail, La Pared waterfall.

Caminamos por el bosque, y unos minutos después llegamos al punto más conocido de este sendero: la cascada La Pared.

Since the rains hadn't arrived yet when we went, the well levels were low. Years ago, the water from this river was diverted by the owners of a farm in the area, which is why you can see old pipes in the ground.

Como aún no habían llegado las lluvias cuando fuimos, el nivel de los pozos estaba bajo. Hace años, el agua de este río fue canalizado por los propietarios de una hacienda que había en la zona, por eso se pueden ver viejas tuberías en el suelo.

The waterfall was also altered by human hands; the wall it has is made of cement, although due to the years and the action of water and vegetation, it now looks natural.

La cascada también fue intervenida por la mano humana; el muro que tiene es de cemento, aunque por los años y la acción del agua y la vegetación, ya parece natural.

Since we were going to our friends' plot, we decided to save our enjoyment of the waterfall for the return trip. The scenery along this trail is fabulous, with several river crossings and beautiful vegetation.

Como íbamos a la parcela de nuestros amigos, dejamos el disfrute en la cascada para el regreso. Los paisajes de este sendero son fabulosos, hay varios pasos de río y bella vegetación.

Moreover, the aromas of some flowers, like the one you see in the photo above, were divine. The sun was already peeking out and the heat would soon arrive, so we continued our hike up the mountain.

Además, los aromas de algunas flores, como la que ven en la foto de arriba, eran divinos. Ya el sol se asomaba y pronto vendría el calor, así que seguimos nuestra ruta montaña arriba.

About 15 minutes later we arrived at the plot. The idea was to help our friends clean a little, water the plants and pick some fruits. Excellent plan, don't you think? 😉

Unos 15 minutos después llegamos a la parcela. La idea era ayudar a nuestros amigos a limpiar un poco, regar las plantas y recoger algunos frutos. Excelente plan, ¿no creen? 😉

They have several plants there, such as coffee, citrus fruits, papaya, bananas, yucca, plantains, sweet peppers, passion fruit, and more that I don't remember 😃.

Ellos tienen varias plantas allí, como café, cítricos, lechoza (papaya), cambur (bananas), yuca, plátano, ají, parchita, y más que no recuerdo 😃.

There are crops they can't plant, like pumpkin or tubers, because the animals that live there, like peccaries, eat them 😂.

Hay rubros que no pueden sembrar, como por ejemplo auyama o tubérculos, porque los animales que viven allí, como los báquiros, se los comen 😂.

As for irrigation water, fortunately it flows down from the mountain, and they've installed a tank and a hose, so they can water without any problems. This was the task we did most during our visit, because since it hadn't rained, many plants were thirsty.

En cuanto al agua para el riego, afortunadamente baja de la montaña, y ellos han puesto un tanque y una manguera y con eso pueden regar sin problemas. Esta tarea fue la que más hicimos en nuestra visita, porque como no había llovido, muchas plantas estaban sedientas.

But we also had some leisure time; chatting, eating and taking photos.

Pero también tuvimos ratos de esparcimiento; conversando, comiendo y tomando fotos.

As I mentioned at the beginning, the mountains of Los Maleteros are beautiful. No wonder Betty and Joan dream of building a little house here to escape the city from time to time.

Como comenté al principio, las montañas de Los Maleteros son una belleza. Con razón Betty y Joan sueñan con construir una casita aquí para escapar de la ciudad de vez en cuando.

My sister @gatubela was fascinated by the place, and by the task of watering. She grabbed the hose and watered every plant she found 😄.

Mi hermana @gatubela estaba fascinada con el lugar, y con la tarea de regar. Agarró la manguera y le echó agua a toda planta que encontró 😄.

Look at the thorns on these mandarin trees, it's a shame they didn't have any fruit yet.

Miren las espinas en estas plantas de mandarina, lástima que aún no tenían frutos.

After we finished watering, we harvested the crop. There were green papayas, perfect for making sweet, and plantains too. Our friends gave us a few kilos of these fruits ❤️.

Después de terminar de regar, recogimos la cosecha. Había lechozas verdes, ideales para hacer dulce, y también plátanos. Nuestros amigos nos regalaron unos cuantos kilos de estos frutos ❤️.

It was about 10:30 in the morning when we finished our work on the plot and started back.

Ya eran como las 10:30 de la mañana cuando terminamos las labores en la parcela y emprendimos el regreso.

Observen el tronco de este árbol, un regalo del bosque que no pude dejar de fotografiar 😊.

We went back to the waterfall and stopped there to cool off. Although I didn't go in the water this time because I didn't bring a change of clothes, I did take off my shoes to dip my feet in the water. Betty was the only one who went under the waterfall, and she stayed there for about an hour, she didn't want to come out 😄.

Volvimos a la cascada y allí hicimos una parada para refrescarnos. Aunque esta vez no me bañé porque no llevé cambio de ropa, sí me quité los zapatos para meter los pies en el agua. Betty fue la única que se metió bajo la cascada, y allí estuvo como una hora, no se quería salir 😄.

And that's how this little adventure came to an end. One of the most amazing things about Venezuela is that in any town or city, you can find beautiful natural spots nearby that take you away from your daily routine, and you can visit them for very little or no cost at all.

Y así terminó esta pequeña aventura. Una de las cosas más increíbles de Venezuela es que en cualquier pueblo o ciudad puedes encontrar cerca bellos lugares naturales que te sacan de la rutina y a los que puedes ir gastando muy poco o gratis.
