A tour around Calderas, Barinas state - Venezuela / Una vuelta por Calderas, estado Barinas - Venezuela

Going to the plains in Venezuela means a lot of heat and filling the view of wide landscapes, without elevations that interrupt the panorama, but Barinas state, which is part of this region, surprises with places like the town of Calderas, very cool and surrounded by mountains, a geography more similar to the Andean part of the country.

Ir a los llanos en Venezuela significa mucho calor y llenar la vista de paisajes amplios, sin elevaciones que interrumpan el panorama, pero el estado Barinas, que forma parte de esta región, sorprende con lugares como el pueblo de Calderas, muy fresco y rodeado de montañas, una geografía más parecida a la parte andina del país.

And of course, when you see the map you realize that this place is bordering the Andean states of Trujillo and Merida, so the environment is justified.

Y claro, cuando ves el mapa te das cuenta de que este lugar es fronterizo con los estados andinos Trujillo y Mérida, entonces el entorno se justifica.

I went to Calderas with my sister, on a three-day trip organized by a hiking group in which we visited several incredible natural sites around this town.

Fui para Calderas junto a mi hermana, a un viaje de tres días organizado por un grupo excursionista en el que recorrimos varios lugares naturales increíbles en los alrededores de este pueblo.

Calderas was our base, where we stayed, and from there we left every morning for the day's adventures. The inn where we stayed is called Cielito Lindo, a beautiful large house with excellent service, comfortable rooms, beautiful views of the town and large internal patios with plants and flowers.

Calderas fue nuestra base, donde nos alojamos, y de ahí salíamos cada mañana hacia las aventuras del día. La posada donde nos quedamos se llama Cielito Lindo, una casona bellísima con excelente servicio, habitaciones cómodas, bellas vistas al pueblo y amplios patios internos con plantas y flores.

Before leaving early in the morning and at sunset when we returned from the excursions, I had time to walk through some of its streets and take pictures, as well as learn a little of its history and way of life.

Antes de irnos temprano en la mañana y al atardecer cuando volvíamos de las excursiones, tuve tiempo de caminar por algunas de sus calles y hacer fotos, además de conocer un poco de su historia y forma de vida.

As in every Venezuelan city or town, here there is also a Bolivar Square, which is located right in the center.

Como en toda ciudad o pueblo venezolano, aquí también hay una Plaza Bolívar, la cual se encuentra en pleno centro.

In the surroundings of the square there are some commercial establishments and colonial style houses. According to some historians, Calderas was born due to the displacement of people from the neighboring town of Altamira de Cáceres, perhaps around 1577.

En los alrededores de la plaza hay algunos locales comerciales y casas de estilo colonial. Según afirman algunos historiadores, Calderas nació por el desplazamiento de personas del vecino poblado de Altamira de Cáceres, quizás cerca del año 1577.

According to the most recent data I found on the Internet, about 4 thousand people live here and it is a place where tranquility is breathed in its streets.

Aquí viven unas 4 mil personas según la data más reciente que encontré en Internet y es un lugar donde la tranquilidad se respira en sus calles.

For many years this town in the foothills of Barinas has been recognized for being a great producer of coffee, in fact when you walk through its streets you can smell coffee everywhere, an aroma that I enjoyed very much because I love this drink. You can buy it freshly ground or in beans in several stores and houses around here.

Desde hace muchos años este pueblo del piedemonte de Barinas es reconocido por ser un gran productor de café, de hecho cuando vas caminando por sus calles huele a café por todas partes, aroma que disfruté mucho porque amo esta bebida. Puedes comprarlo recién molido o en grano en varias tiendas y casas por aquí.

In addition to coffee, their main source of income, the people of Calderas also grow other crops such as bananas, citrus, sugar cane, vegetables and potatoes.

Además del café, su principal fuente económica, la gente de Calderas se dedica también a otros cultivos como cambures (bananas), cítricos, caña de azúcar, hortalizas y papas.

Tourism has also become a new source of income in recent years. While we were hiking here we had a local boy as a guide.

Asimismo el turismo se ha convertido en los últimos años en una nueva fuente de ingresos. Mientras estuvimos excursionando por aquí tuvimos de guía a un chico del pueblo.

With its cool climate and mountain scenery, Calderas seemed to me a super nice place with very friendly people. Although it wasn't the protagonist of this trip and we had little time to walk it since we went to explore its surroundings, I think it also deserves to be visited.

Con su clima fresco y paisajes de montaña, Calderas me pareció un lugar súper agradable y con gente muy amable. A pesar de que no era el protagonista de este viaje ya que fuimos a explorar sus alrededores, creo que también merece ser recorrido.
