Picking fruit from the queen palm tree / Recogiendo frutos de la palmera pindó

Super orange when ripe and very sweet, that's how the fruits of the queen palm tree (Syagrus romanzoffiana) are, a species native to South America that is very common to see in streets, parks and other urban areas of Venezuela.

Súper anaranjados cuando están maduros y muy dulces, así son los frutos de la palmera pindó (Syagrus romanzoffiana), una especie nativa de Sudamérica que es muy común ver en calles, parques y otras zonas urbanas de Venezuela.

This morning I went out with my mom to a shopping center that has many of them planted in its gardens, and when she saw that there were many little orange dots on the grass, she got excited and told me that she was going to stop to pick up the little fruits. Ever since she discovered them, she always does 😃.

Esta mañana salí con mi mamá a un centro comercial que tiene muchas de ellas sembradas en sus jardines, y cuando ella vio que en la grama había muchos puntitos anaranjados, se emocionó y me dijo que se iba a parar para recoger los pequeños frutos. Desde que los descubrió, siempre lo hace 😃.

Up high, the palm trees were laden with clusters of fruit, and the ground was covered in these tiny fruits, which my mother calls dates, I'm not sure if they are. Some of them had split open, but most were whole and perfectly edible, so we gathered quite a few.

Allá en las alturas, las palmeras tenían unos racimos muy cargados, y el suelo estaba repleto de estas mini frutas, que mi mamá llama dátiles, no sé si lo son. Algunos de ellos se habían abierto, pero la mayoría estaban enteros y en buen estado para comer, así que recogimos bastantes.

I think few people know that these fruits are edible, and although they don't have much pulp and are very fibrous, their flavor is delicious. Have you tried them?

Creo que pocas personas saben que estos frutos son comestibles, y aunque no tienen mucha pulpa y son muy fibrosos, su sabor es delicioso. ¿Los han probado?
