Portraying my mom | Monomad Challenge [ENG-ESP]

I talked about analog photography in my previous post, and in the one before that, about the order I usually put before the end of the year, so combining those two things, I share today some images I took some years ago with an analog camera and that I found today while I was tidying up a part of my room.

These photos were the product of a university assignment, for the subject of Photojournalism. Using black and white roll film, we had to make portraits, of anything we wanted, and what occurred to me was to tell my mom to pose in her work environment, where she has her sewing machines.

Since she had everything in the house, it was easy to arrange the scene, we just put some of the patterns she used on the wall to make it clear what she did for a living, since I didn't want to put the sewing machine in the foreground.

My mom has worked mostly in making swimsuits and intimate apparel, so those shapes you see on the wall behind her are the patterns of those garments.

Of course, being analog photography, I couldn't see how the shots were coming out. Developing the roll of film and the photos on paper was also part of the task, so I saw the result after doing this process in the darkroom at the university. I remember I took about five photos, and I liked two of them, which are the ones I gave to the professor and share here today as my entry to the #monomad challenge.

As for the third photo in this post, it's another portrait I took of my mom but outdoors, I share it so you can see how blurry it was, but it was because I failed in the developing process. By the way, it is too magical to see how the image appears on the paper when you dip it in the tray with the developing liquid.

And the last photo is the camera I used to do this task, a heavy Canon that belonged to my dad. And you, have you done analog photography? I look forward to your comments.

Hablé de la fotografía analógica en mi publicación anterior, y en la anterior a esa, del orden que suelo poner antes de fin de año, así que combinando esas dos cosas, comparto hoy unas imágenes que tomé hace algunos años con una cámara analógica y que encontré hoy mientras ordenaba una parte de mi habitación.

Estas fotos fueron producto de una tarea universitaria, para la materia de Periodismo Fotográfico. Utilizando rollo de película en blanco y negro, debíamos hacer retratos, de cualquier cosa que quisiéramos, y lo que a mí se me ocurrió fue decirle a mi mamá que posara en su ambiente de trabajo, donde tiene sus máquinas de coser.

Como tenía todo en la casa, fue sencillo arreglar la escena, sólo pusimos algunos de los patrones que usaba en la pared para que se entendiera a qué se dedicaba, ya que no quería colocar la máquina de coser en primer plano.

Mi mamá ha trabajado más que todo en la confección de trajes de baño y ropa íntima, entonces esas formas que se ven en la pared detrás de ella, son los patrones de esas prendas.

Por supuesto, al ser fotografía analógica, no podía ver cómo iban quedando las tomas. Revelar el rollo de película y las fotos en papel era también parte de la tarea, entonces vi el resultado después de hacer este proceso en el cuarto oscuro de la universidad. Recuerdo que tomé como cinco fotos, y me gustaron dos, que son las que entregué al profesor y comparto hoy acá como mi entrada al reto #monomad.

En cuanto a la tercera foto de esta publicación, es otro retrato que le hice a mi mamá pero en exteriores, la comparto para que vean lo borrosa que quedó, pero fue porque fallé en el proceso de revelado. Por cierto, es demasiado mágico ver cómo va apareciendo la imagen en el papel cuando la sumerges en la bandeja con el líquido revelador.

Y la última foto es la cámara que utilicé para hacer esta tarea, una pesada Canon que era de mi papá. Y ustedes, ¿han hecho fotografía analógica? Espero sus comentarios.
