Splinterlands Art Contest Entry week 211 - Dr Bolt (Original Character)

My inactiveness/Life update

Hello guys, I know it's been a while since you guys have seen my art blogs here. I have a good excuse for that haha. Exams sometimes affect your mood and creativity to a whole new level due to stress and anxiety. The harder the exam the higher the stress and therefore no creativity/mood to create art. One of my exams was finished some days ago and before the next exam, I have some time to spare to draw something for the weekly Splinterlands art contest. Man, I really missed participating weekly and I think have been away for more than 40+ days. I have been catching up a bit since yesterday night to see how things are in here and as usual, the winners came up with a lot of cool concepts. After seeing those I had to jump in and make one haha. Ok then let's begin the blog!

Splinterlands Art Contest Entry Week 211

I noticed that in one of the contest compilation posts that one can make their own splinterlands character and participate in the contest. I decided to take that path this time and make a design on my own. I like lightning so I decided to choose that as my element however I also noticed that the lighting element is not present in there (correct me if I'm wrong) so my character is based on that.

Dr Bolt - Master of Lightning

Character Information

Dr Bolt is a genius scientist who harnessed the power to control and produce massive amounts of electrical energy in the form of supercharged bolts with his Double Tesla coil invention. He is covered in a next-gen shock-resistant suit to shield himself from the bolts thereby making him a walking mass of electrical energy. His suit is modified in a way that the excess electrical energy can be utilized in two ways. During the battle, the good doctor can damage his opponents with his concentrated tesla blast and his suit makes this possible by controlling the charge by earthing the excess flow of current thereby giving him full control of the intensity of the blast. Dr Bolt's location is currently unknown.

Dr Bolt Splinterland card design

Untitled52_20221022093802.png

After creating the artwork, I wanted to make it look like an authentic Splinterlands card hehe so I managed to find this site where I can make a card if an artwork is available for it. The site lets you edit everything about the card like card status, frame colour etc to suit your character's needs. My card was made in a golden frame since the bolt colour is yellow and the character colour is red. Red seems to go really well with yellow or green background.

There was a minor issue though, The output from the site was not really good. I mean the frame looks good but after placing my art into it the character looked really blurry so I manually added him on the frame with the help of the ibis app itself. I believe there must be some rules while uploading an image in there to get the best results. I'm not aware of it and if anyone knows let me know in the comment section guys.

The process

I made some creative changes to the helmet on the final version. The lighting on the head didn't feel so good to me.

This actually looks less time to create compared to my previous drawings. I believe I know how to use the tools really well know plus my shading technique is quite simple. Usually, I spend the entire night colouring but yesterday it happened faster than usual. I believe it's probably due to the rest I got after taking a break for more than a month now. I'm glad I did this yesterday and today I can finally share it with you guys. There is another reason why I made an original character this time, I wanted to make this into an NFT as my first NFT in the hive showroom. I can't really do it now due to a lack of time to study the method but I will try to do that in the future after my exams.

it seems like a lightning or lightning generator is also logical to make in the real world, but it must be very hard to fight with a tool like a diving tube, but I like the concept and coloring, simple shading but clear light effects, good work

Thanks bro. I like how you understood my character design. He is a scientist so I wanted to make it a bit more believable hence the Tesla coils haha.

the idea is very good, yes I know the tesla coil, that's why I'm familiar with the shape, but maybe there is a tool to connect in hand so that the lightning flash can be directed at the enemy directly, it will definitely have a fatal effect, but just my opinion don't ignore it ha. ha..ha..conceptually I like the description you are very smart in executing your ideas into works that can be enjoyed and make me think

Oh I see what you have in mind. My thinking was with his helmet and suit tech he was able to control the flow of current in any way. I was thinking about adding him electric knuckles too but maybe I'll add that to the final version.

Thank you for havin this conversation with me. Usually people on talk about the art style only. This was very refreshing.

you're welcome, I like superhero movies and DC or Marvel comics, so I like to see character creation depicting science and technology that is beyond human understanding now, I'm happy to see your work so I'm interested in commenting more, keep working I'm waiting for good work another

Same here haha. I will try to create more like this if my brain can give some ideas haha. Lots of ideas are already done by DC and Marvel so it's gonna be pretty hard. Sci fi content is the best hehe.

Yay! Welcome back and you just made an electrifying comeback with a cool art. How I wish I'm as fast as you draw. Two months of not being able to draw affected my speed a lot. Let's push for the showroom as well. I'm about to mint my first ever NFT too since I'm nearly done. Mint this one. I'm sure you can.

Thanks kris. I feel like you still need to familiarise yourself with the tools of your art software. That's the only way you can be more productive plus having a clear idea really helps. I always try to picture the final result in my head before even drawing a concept.

As for the showroom, I will join you but not now as I have exams soon. If the tutorial is really easy I'll consider it haha. That's all I can say for now. I heard verification takes some time so yeah.

Yes I need to look into tutorials again for more time saving techniques aside from the built in brushes. I also need to sleep more so I can think clearly haha so many things to do daily. Good luck with your exams. Someone from hive ph is guiding me. She said her verification in the showroom only took hours. I'll do it once I'm done with my drawing. I only have the background left to do. See you in the showroom soon.

That's good hehe. The hive community is very helpful and supportive. I will try to join you soon.

You should try to sleep at least 8hrs a day. It can be a huge asset to your creativity. A month ago I was completely burned out and yesterday the new design just popped into my head just like that haha. Rest is very important.

First off, this one came out awesome! And it's your own concept, which is impressive. This is totally NFT-worthy.

You make the process look so simple, and it all comes together seamlessly, even if there are changes you want to make along the way. Plus your finished product has a clean and fresh feel, and that's not just on this one.

How long have you been using Ibis?

And when do you find out how you did on your exams?

:-)

Thanks hehe. I hope the potential buyers see it that way.

I have been using it since more than a year now Ema. It's only natural that over time you gain experience over the software. It's the same with me haha.

As for the results, I'm not sure about that. It's upto the uni and only they know when they will publish it.

Yes, practice is the only way. Consistent practice is even better. I have been drawing and painting for as long as I can remember, but there are some gaps in my history to be sure. 🙈 life has gotten in the way of life on a number of occasions 😏

Well you're very good with the tools you use, and that's inspiration for other people too! Your content is always quality.

About your exams, I see. How nerve wracking! Or maybe not, if you're confident in your performance. Either way, I wish you the best, both on your tests and on your NFT journey. 🦾

Thankyou so much Ema for your kind words. I believe you also make art on your phone? If that's the case we are doing very well xd. The small screen was never intended for drawing purposes. Most people would just quit haha. Let's save hive and buy a tab or lap soon :)

You make a good point there! These things are meant to scroll through feeds and text message, not create the next great masterpiece, haha.
Hmmms, yes an upgrade is coming. For you and me both! That would be a good reason to spend a little Hive. It will happen in 2023, bet

yep, it will happen in 2023 for sure. After my exam, I'll try to post more blogs. I was also thinking about drawing traditional ones as well. One blog per week is not enough for growth it seems. I can definitely make more content but making original characters need more time and effort as we are not just copying them. Although I do miss drawing fan art. we'll see what happens in the future. I don't have a plan and that's why I'm always behind xD.

Traditional, you say? What is your preferred medium?
Yes, it is tough making more than one post per week if it's all original, especially if a person has other obligations that take up a lot of time. My goal I one per week, but I want to get to 2... October wasn't my best month here 😅
Well, your work always looks good, even if it might not be as frequent as others.

My preferred medium for art is digital. I don't like a medium which needs water in it xd.
