Time up!

This is one of the many interesting topics brought forward in the community over the past few weeks, which I promised myself I would input my two cents... Or more if I'm floating with generosity, lol.

All it took was the post's title and I was thrown back to sometime within the last lap of last year when I came across a movie clip on tiktok which caught my utmost attention.

Though I ended up downloading the Hindu version of it and worst still, without a subtitle, I binged it anyway and I can pretty much say that I got the plot of the movie "Countdown".

An app that tells one's exact death time.

Anyone would think the app was just a bluff, probably the result of a developer's boredom and surely meant to give people a scare except it wasn't. At least not after the death of two individuals who breathed their last the very moment their time ended as clocked by the app.

However, the supposed next in-line victim (Quinn) was said to have three days left on earth but guess what???

She lived it in insidious fear. Employing various tactics ranging from uninstalling the app which however appeared right back in her cellphone, to purchasing a brand new phone and somehow, the app still found it's way back in, installing itself, down to seeking out a priest and many other acts of resistance.

It's quite understandable given that the app in the movie was said to be linked to a demon which was just what made the whole death predictability perfectly accurate but if such a device was to be birthed to life as a reality for all to live with, people's reaction to it isn't far fetched either.

I can cross my heart that 9 out of 10 people would follow up Quinn's example. I mean, who exactly would get to know his or her death hour, minute, second and yet, won't feel lightheaded?

Acceptance would be a highly prized possession in such a situation because people would be bound to adopt every means within their power inorder to resist their end, practically living in paralyzed terror.
Destroying the device, racing against time and every other possibility would be the trend.

Knowing one's death time makes room for two scenarios, either it changes how people live or stops them from livng remotely and I think we all know the former carries momentum given that only a very few would be keen on making the best of their last days as beings.

I sincerely believe the certainty of death alongside the (surprise-like) uncertainty of its hour is precious so getting myself a device to ruin the surprise though an unpalatable one?... I'll gladly sit that out.

As philosopher Seneca stated, the unknown hour demands our full presence in every moment of life as we still get to breath through and I'd rather not spend my last seconds counting down!

Interesting, I think I will give that movie a watch.
But then, I can't and I won't use my money to buy such a device that will give me unrest and make me stop existing even while I'm alive.
