A look at buildings in Medellín

Greetings friends architecture lovers, good weather and free time is a good combination to go for a walk in Medellin, lately it rains a lot, so much so that the nature that adorns it is greener and more colorful. Well you know that one of the characteristics that I like about this modern city is its natural ornament that distinguishes it but this time I wanted to take advantage of a sunny day with a clear blue sky and perfect to look at some buildings.

I started to meditate as I looked up, and what I was thinking about was how majestic vertical constructions can be, regardless of the era and style of architecture. For example, Medellin is a metropolis that never stops growing and therefore is full of very tall buildings between business and residential. As I am an admirer of architecture in my tour I invested a few shots with the camera of my iPhone to immortalize some buildings that may not be as famous as those who are used to see in google when I type the word Medellin.

I went to El Poblado, the best area here in Medellin but what at first was a clear rainy day started to change. My sky was no longer perfect but the buildings were and I wanted to go ahead with my purpose of photographing some of them. By midday the weather was still cloudy, I had to take advantage before it started to rain and some buildings were in front of me like the ones I am going to show you below.

Alianza Building

Edificio Alianza

Diapositiva5.PNG

The midday sun is right over the Alianza business building and the glass windows that border it are the most striking element in this building of simple shape and straight lines.

Diapositiva6.PNG

Diapositiva7.PNG

The design of the Alianza building may seem ordinary, not so modern compared to the other skyscrapers in El Poblado, but friends this is a very striking business building, you just have to stand in front of it and see how it stands out from up close and also from afar.

Diapositiva4.PNG

The combination of glass in the large windows in a concrete colossus is something I like in avant-garde buildings, it gives a special touch to the appearance of the buildings, because aesthetics is very important and so is receiving a lot of natural light inside.

Nova Tempo Building

Edificio Nova Tempo

Diapositiva8.PNG

The Nova Tempo building is also a business building and is on the right side of the Alianza building. As you can see it seems to be hidden among trees. Ah, I like that. Look at the tree almost as tall as the building, they are like two giants measuring their power or perhaps comparing their complicity to give beauty to the city.

Diapositiva15.PNG

Seeing vegetation bordering modern architectural structures relaxes me because it is like establishing a connection between humans and nature. I think that architects of this era should bet on healthy living in their designs even in the most avant-garde works.

Diapositiva9.PNG

Diapositiva10.PNG

Nova Tempo is a building with a more elaborate design, where curved lines combined with straight lines predominate and its external appearance is very nice. The combination of opaque or translucent brown glass in addition to preventing it from being seen into the interior offers naturally illuminated spaces and I think they make it look like a bronze building.

Diapositiva13.PNG

The Colinas del Poblado building is also next to the Alianza, but to its left. I like its avant-garde design of straight lines and its staircase-like shape. It must have been very interesting to make this proposal with this architectural design and even more so at the time of its construction where visually it follows an order that is ascending from the first floor to the top floor, each slab or floor of the building is uneven and is perfectly reflected in the main facade.

Diapositiva14.PNG

The front of the building looks great with its large open balconies that are naturally ventilated and illuminated.

Diapositiva14.4PNG.png

The side facades also have large windows with glass that allow light into the offices.

Diapositiva14.1PNG.png

Taking a look at the left side facade I see that the building has the rear facade at a lower level than the main facade. This is because El Poblado is a high and hilly area so it also enjoys a beautiful view of the mountains and the city.

Diapositiva14.2PNG.png

Below you can see the open-air parking lot and also the internal parking lot that covers two floors of the building.

Diapositiva14.3PNG.png

The weather gets more complicated

El clima se complica

Diapositiva17.PNG

The bad weather beat me, look at the gray clouds in the sky, the truth is that this is a very different panorama than the one presented in my cover photo. That blue sky was changing and on the way back I could only take advantage of one more building but only briefly. This brick residential building is from another area outside of El Poblado and I don't know its name but it stands out very well among the houses and other smaller buildings.

Diapositiva16.PNG

I could not stop long because the rain was already starting to fall. But my dear friends, despite the rain I say goodbye happy because the concrete giants in a green city like Medellin are what distinguish it as a metropolis that is constantly growing.

I think that in the last decades the city of Medellin has had a greater urban and architectural development in all of Colombia. In that way also in harmony of modernity with nature. Greetings!

Yes, my friend, I have known Medellin for two years and I have seen buildings being built in two months, that surprises me. The urban development is impressive. Thanks for your support my friend.

Oh wow! Such a wonderful treat of Medellin's architectural skyline dear friend @sorprendente! It goes to show that the remarkable city is simply progressing and developing in terms of real estate, thus boosting its economic power. Architecture is certainly an enormous factor when assessing a location's standing. Add nature to the blend, then you have the ideal urban environment, right? 😊👍

Of all the skyscrapers you've featured here, which one is your topmost pick and why?

Hello my dear friend @storiesoferne. Wow! you are right about what is for me the ideal urban environment. That's why the Nova Tempo building is my best choice because of the tree that serves as an acoustic and thermal buffer although the area is quite cool climate and also the facade of the building has most of it, in a way, enclosed in a concrete wall which is also an insulator. But the tree has more importance because of its natural function. To my taste, the tree gives the building facade more visual aesthetics and incidentally is a natural insulator, my favorite insulator 😊 Personally I like to establish that connection between the natural and the structure. Thanks friend for leaving your valuable inputs. Blessings and have a great week!

Oh yes, a great choice indeed my friend @sorprendente. Nature will always complete architecture! As you said, the green surroundings not only help the building against the harmful rays of the sun but also act as aesthetic qualities. As a result, you get a more sustainable built environment. Thank you for expressing your valuable opinion! Blessings! 😊

Hi @sorprendente, the city of Medellin is growing very fast and with it the constructions and modern buildings, the glass windows contrast with the space, I was struck by the building Colinas del poblado, the first impression looks like an inverted pyramid, then you observe well are balconies that protrude.

Greetings!

Hi @belkyscabrera, thank you very much for stopping by and leaving your valuable opinion and choice about the Medellin buildings I brought. I'm glad you liked Colinas del Poblado, to me it looks like a staircase and it is also as you say, it looks like a pyramid, I think your comparison is better than mine 👍 Welcome, blessings.

Very good engineering, they are buildings made in the old school, made to last in my beautiful city!
greeting.

Hi @sorprendente, thank you for this opportunity you gave us to know a little about a beautiful city we haven't being there, like you said, and that I believe that many people here will agree to that, you are having a very great insight. All these buildings are outstanding, the architectural mind behind them are super great.
But the Colinas Del Pablado got me more, the staircase-like perspective won my heart, the wide balconies and the facade all around the build makes it more lovely to me. That will give the occupants all the opportunity to have different great views of the beautiful areas.
