I had already talked about roads, a specific area of urban design, where functionality and beauty must be taken into account, because the construction and ornamentation are very important in the urbanism of a city and in a country as rich and important as Venezuela. In my last publication on land roads, I told you about some damages suffered by the roads due to the rains, but this time I show you with astonishment some monuments to the neglect that I observed in my hometown Maracay, in Venezuela.

Christmas time arrives and everything should look festive and radiant, even the roads are dressed in bright lights that brighten the view and infect everyone with Christmas cheer. But what to do with the reality of a very poor road system, where the neglect by the authorities has been blatantly evident for decades. So much so that citizens with magnificent ingenuity decide to install objects, which can serve as warning signs that prevent imminent danger on any road in Venezuela.

The supposed road and handmade arrangements of the neighbors range from barricades with old tires, sticks, pipes, beams, blocks, etc. Anything is valid, as long as it avoids an accident that could be fatal in the worst case. Llega la época de navidad y todo debe lucir festivo y radiante, aún la vialidad se viste de luces brillantes que alegran la vista y contagian a todos de ánimo navideño. Pero y cómo hacer con la realidad de un sistema vial paupérrimo, donde el abandono por parte de las autoridades es descaradamente evidente por décadas. Tal es así que los ciudadanos con magnificó ingenio deciden instalar objetos, que puedan servir de señal de alerta que prevengan el peligro inminente en cualquier vía de Venezuela.

Los supuestos arreglos viales y artesanales de los vecinos van desde barricadas con cauchos viejos, palos, tubos, vigas, bloques. Todo es válido, con tal de evitar un accidente que pueda ser fatal en el peor caso. Pero solo es cuestión de mirar esta calle de un legendario barrio que a simple viste se puede ver normal, sin notarse que sufre de hundimientos y grandes huecos. Sin notarlo, llamó mi atención unos bultos a lo lejos, en medio de la vía.
