Reparation of the Past

Photography is a great invention.
Yes, I know, we are in an architecture community here, and I say with a pure heart and I believe what I say, namely that architecture is the greatest invention of human hands and mind. And it is here that one can see the boundless boundaries, the lack of boundaries in human creativity, talent and creation.

But imagine, there is no photography.

What will happen to all these wonderful human creations then? Thousands, millions and billions scattered around the globe? How will their presence on Earth be documented? With drawings? In fact, I read years ago about one such person who traveled a certain area in Belgium and Luxembourg several hundred years ago. And he drew numerous castles and churches. According to his drawings, many buildings were later rebuilt after being demolished.

Well, nowadays there are hardly any such people anymore. But on the other hand, we have photography. Even today everyone is a photographer. Because everyone has a phone. And I hope you use their cameras for a useful purpose.

You must be wondering why I'm telling you all this.
Well, for one simple reason - there is nothing eternal on this earth. The buildings are the least eternal. At any moment, anything can happen and every building can disappear in seconds. And then never to be restored or to be able to see it in its previous appearance again.

In fact, I express here my own disappointment and experience. And the building I want to show you here is a recent example of this.

So many times I have carelessly passed this old building, a building that is a cultural center, one of the cultural centers in that artificially created city that I talked to you about so often here .... do you remember? 🙂

And despite the overall condition of the city and all of its buildings in general, despite all of its crumbling buildings that no one cares about, has no money to care for, or shows no interest in, I never thought that exactly on the day I have finally decided to photograph it, I will find it like this: surrounded by fences of the construction company, to which it was apparently handed over by the municipality for repair.

Fences from which nothing can be seen and examined in detail from this building, because it can not be reached, it can not be approached.

Yes, the building has long been in a condition that requires renovation. Urgent renovation. And this can be seen even through the fence. But, as I said, the municipality here is not interested in that.

These are pictures of the back of the building:

What I know about the building is, as I told you, that it is a cultural center. Its history begins in 1902. Of course, its appearance clearly shows that this exact building was not built then. But since I did not find any clear information, and somewhere in the news about it - only the year 1951, and this year coincides with the initial years of construction of the whole city, I will assume that the building was built then.

On the side of the building I found and photographed through the fence a memorial plaque dedicated to the Young Guards of Krasnodon, "who taught us .... and patriotism in the construction of our Dimitrovgrad of the new life of our homeland." You know, Young Guards was an antifascist youth organization.
Well, I don't want to delve into politics and its unfortunate history again.

I just wanted to show you another wonderful creation of the communist brain and hand. It has reached the brink of destruction. However, now that it will be renovated, it is not clear whether it will be able to be seen again in its original form.

Let's see...
