Por aquí, como adelantaba, hoy estaremos jugando Rising Star Game y estaremos también escuchando mucha música y dibujando.

Specifically, we will be drawing a very cool card, today we bring the energy of Trenton Lundy, “The funk is not just sound, it’s spirit.” We will pay tribute to this card in an anime style, which is the style I am trying to improve. Let pencils and guitars vibrate: funk and groove.

Específicamente estaremos dibujando una carta muy genial, traemos hoy la energía de Trenton Lundy, “The funk is not just sound, it’s spirit.” Rendiremos homenaje a esta carta en un estilo anime, que es el estilo que estoy tratando de mejorar. Hagamos vibrar lápices y guitarras: funk y groove.


Rising Star Game

This fan art is my way of reinterpreting the card, we will be using the original cover as a reference and we will try to emulate it in my style.

Este fan art es mi forma de reinterpretar la carta, estaremos usando la carátula original como referencia y la trataremos de emular en mi estilo.

I started by making a sketch of my drawing in anime style, but the process went from trying to emulate the pose of the original card using basic shapes. Little by little I added elements and refined my sketch. I use blue color because it is much easier for me to work with the final lines.

Comencé realizando un boceto de mi dibujo en estilo anime, pero el proceso fue desde tratar de emular la pose de la carta original a partir de formas básicas. Poco a poco fui agregando elementos, y fui refinando mi boceto. Utilizo color azul porque me es mucho más sencillo para trabajar con las líneas finales.

I share with you a small animation in GIF format of the sketching process, from the initial geometric shapes to the final details.

Les comparto una pequeña animación en formato GIF del proceso de bocetado, desde las formas geométricas iniciales hasta los últimos detalles.

After finishing my sketch I simply lower the opacity and start drawing the final line art. I am using a brush with pencil texture effect, and I also want to make it look as if it were a drawing in a notebook, so I will add a background with a grid like in math notebooks. I am using a thin line thickness and applying some linear values to create depth effects and the shadows of some occlusions.

Después de terminar mi boceto simplemente bajo la opacidad y comienzo a dibujar el line art final. Estoy usando un pincel con efecto de textura de lápiz, además quiero hacer como si estuviera hecho un dibujo en el cuaderno, para eso agregaré un fondo con una cuadrícula como en los cuadernos de mates. Estoy usando un grosor fino de línea y aplicando algunos valores lineales para crear efectos de profundidades y las sombras de algunas oclusiones.

I also share with you a small animation in GIF format that shows the lineart process over the sketch.

Les comparto también una pequeña animación en formato GIF que muestra el proceso del lineart sobre el boceto.

After finishing all the line art I start adding the colors that will be the base of my drawing, trying to respect as much as possible the original colors of the card art but adapting them to the anime style. On top of these colors I use layer blending effects such as multiply and overlay to create shadows and lights both on the character’s skin, on the clothes, and on the electric guitar. At this point I have to confess that I do not draw many musical instruments, but it is good practice and something to step out of my comfort zone.

Después de tener todo el lineart realizado comienzo a dar los colores que serán la base de mi dibujo, tratando de respetar al máximo los colores originales del arte de las cartas, pero adaptándolo al estilo anime. Encima de estos colores utilizo efectos de fusión de capas como multiplicar y sobreexponer para crear sombras y luces tanto en la piel del personaje, como en la ropa y en la guitarra eléctrica. A este punto tengo que confesar que no dibujo muchos instrumentos musicales, pero es una buena práctica y algo para salir del molde.
