Nothing beats dreams, yet they're scary....

Aren't we humans again or are we aliens?
I for one am only but a human, I don't know for you, maybe you're an alien, hehehe.

As humans, there are two things we're cut short of..

  • We don't have the power to know the future, not even what will happen in the next minute

  • We just can't help but to keep dreaming even when the dreams get scary that we can't actualise them, some get to the extent of passing their dreams to their younger generations.

That's it! That's Humans!!

The Future?

You know the interesting thing is that no one on earth ever envisions his or herself having a future not so bright but then, there are more to what we just declare or dream about.... Life isn't just as we plan most times and there will eventually be hitches along the way.
It's then our determination to actualise our dream that keeps us going In those moments.

Personally, I'm in school trying to get the bachelor of medicine and the bachelor of surgery... I've got my fears and I've also got my excitements too.

What Scares Me About My Future

Just like I said, I'm still a student and just like every medical student out there, we've all got the fear of failure.

IMG_20240420_091613.jpg

Nothing beats me like failing and talking from experience as I've been caught up on one before, I know how painful it could get.
The worst of them all is that it's just not about reading your texts, the subjectivity is just too much.

There are more than a hundred thousand and one diseases on earth and there is no guarantee any of them your patient is going to have on the exam day..
What happens when the patient comes with that singular disease you have no solid knowledge about?
Your whole work goes down the drain and there's nothing you could do about it .. the conclusion becomes that you don't read your books and you would have to wait for another time.
The fear of failure right now is my greatest fear.

Another is the fear of table death, It's almost impossible to practice for a good ten years treating patients and there was no death you recorded.. some might be because of late presentation or accident victims who died under your watch.

IMG_20240420_091628.jpg

It scares me that I would be the one someday to proclaim to the family members of patients that their brother, sister, uncle, aunt, mum or dad is dead..
Thinking about it alone gets me crazy.

Finally, by God's grace, in few months time now I will be done, you know what tops my fear charts?
I told you there are a hundred thousand and one diseases and guess what?
As a doctor, I'm expected to know all of them.

IMG_20240420_091642.jpg

I'm scared I don't know enough in all these diseases to help make the diagnosis and treat my patients according..
Sometimes, this fear makes me want the school to give us more time to even hide under the shadows of studentship.

My Excitements About The Future

The greatest excitement on the profession is that singular moment when you're discharging a patient that came in very sick walking on his both feets.
That joy is synonymous to none and the family members keep thanking you endlessly just like when a pregnant woman delivers and the husband even jumps on the doctor out of excitement.

Wearing that labcoat with our logo and your name inscribed on it is another one.

IMG_20240420_091557.jpg

Well, it might seem petty but this is one of my excitement, lol. It has always been my dream to own a labcoat with my name on it and medical badge alongside it so thinking about that day it'll come to actualisation excites me.

Technological advancements is yet another one.
Unlike the practice of the old when you literally have to do everything with minimal or no aid, there are constant advancements in technology and that includes machines that helps us in making diagnosis once you're pointing it at the right direction making the work a lot easier... So yes, I'm excited about this too.

Travelling gets in too.. I'm someone who loves travelling a lot and medicine is one of the professions out there that will make you travel all around the world.

IMG_20240420_091529.jpg

Financial breakthrough can't be missed; I'll be lying if after all these writeups and I didn't mention the financial breakthrough that comes with it.
Yes, it excites me that medicine is also quite lucrative.

The past is gone but we have the present to make the future an amazing one...
The fact that your dreams scare you means you're on the right path as Ellen Johnson will say,
"If Your Dream Doesn't Scare You, it Isn't Big Enough."

Should you dwell on the past or would you lay a good foundation for your amazing future?

The choice is yours!

Love the saying from Ellen Johnson. Sometimes, I do have this fear of being overly ambitious that could come to ruin later in the future, lol. I think its better to look towards the future, be optimistic and plan for it instead of dwelling on the past. The medical field is fascinating, there's so much to learn and discover, and the excitement of these often outweighs the unfortunate circumstances that will happen every now and then.
