Introduction

Good day, Splinterlands! It's time again for Splinterlands' SHARE YOUR BATTLE Weekly Challenge! GEM METEOR I'd like to tell you about one of my most recent battle with one of the Chaos Legion Monsters with Scattershot ability in the Splinterlands. This monster is not usually part of my regular lineup because I find other monsters with range attack better to use that this card. But apparently, this card is usefull also at some instances and when used correctly, it can contribute to your chance to win the battle. How did I use Gem Meteor to win? Let's look at it.

Here is a quick rundown of Gem Meteor stats.

GEM METEOR
Edition: CHAOS LEGION
Rarity: EPIC
Element: NEUTRAL UNIT
Attack: RANGE
Abilities: SCATTERSHOT AT LEVEL 1, PIERCING AT LEVEL 5

LORE
They say there is nothing more beautiful than a Regal Peryton. They prefer to live in the mountains all across the Splinterlands, rarely seen by others. When they soar through the skies, the sunlight catches through their wings and creates rainbows underneath them. Regal Perytons are highly intelligent and consider themselves noble guardians of the natural world, using their magic to help others.

Battle Configuration

The Modern Format rulesets for this fight are Weak Magic and Close Range and the maximum amount of mana allowed is 34. The available elements are Fire, Life and Dragon. The rulesets are quite favorable with Gem Meteor and I think this is a good opportunity to highlight this card. Because of Weak Magic, opponent might be wary to use Magic Attack cards so most probably, the opponent will use monsters with physical attacks. The Close Range ruleset also allow Gem Meteor to attack even at Position 1. Gem Meteor at at Level 3 has 5 Speed which is a good number in Silver League and have a high chance of dodging opponent's melee and ranged attacks. This is the reason why I used Time mage to reduce the opponent's speed and Supply Runner to further increase the Speed of all my monsters on the field. To aid my Gem Meteor, I also used the support from Venari Crystalsmith to heal my monsters in Position 1, Runeslinger to Stun and and inflict Affliction to the enemy. And I also have Pelacor Arbalest as main damager in this battle. To further increase the damage output of my monsters, I used General Sloan as my summoner to add +1 Ranged Attack to allied monsters.

  • WEAK MAGIC: Magic attacks hit Armor before reducing Health. Protect, Repair, Rust are useful in this ruleset. Beware the opponent could choose only Melee and Ranged monsters, so keep a tank with Shield. Splintercards Weak Magic Ruleset.
  • CLOSE RANGE: Ranged attacks may be used in the first position in battles. You can use high HP or high speed Ranged monsters at position 2 (or even at position 1 if it has Heal). Choose summoners that give a bonus to Ranged attack or to speed and then choose high damage Ranged attack monsters. Beware of the possibility that your opponent might pick Lir Deepswimmer as summoner or monsters with Return Fire. High HP and Heal is the way to go in this ruleset. Splintercards Close Range Ruleset.

Let's Battle!

The opponent used General Sloan also as the summoner and has 3 Ranged Attack monsters. It has a well-balanced line-up with Chaos Knight as the tank Time Mage as debuff, Venari Crystalsmith as Healer, Celestial Harpy as back-line attacker and the main damager Prismologist and Pelacor Arbalest. My strategy on the other hand is to win with Speed and outattack the opponent by using Ranged Attack monsters as majority in my line-up.

Round 1 started with my advantage on speed. Both sides have Time Mage, but I have Supply Runner to counter the effect of Slow.

One thing I really don't like that much with monsters with Scattershot like Gem Meteor, is that you cannot predict whose monster it will attack. In this case, all my monsters are aiming for the opponent's Position 1 monster, but Gem Meteor attacked Prismoloist. If my monsters cannot focus fire on 1 single monster at a time, it might delay clearing up the opponents HP one by one and might have a chance to counter attack.

Round 1 ended with both sides having 4 monsters each. However, my Runeslinger has 3 HP left and I have no healer.

Round 2 started with Gem Meteor landing an attack to Prismilogist again while my other monsters focused on Time Mage and Venari Crystalsmith.

Here in Turn 13 of Round 2, Gem Meteor displayed its advantage, by dodgin the attack from the opponent. This time, there was no more Time Mage on the opponent's side and I still have Supply Runner. This made my Gem Meteor's Speed to 6.

With overwhelming speed, my line-up always attacked first and won the battle. My rating increased by 38 and I earned 12,341 Reward Points and 385 SPS in this battle.

My Takeaway in using Gem Meteor

Based on this battle, Gem Meteor can be very useful when you have Speed buff and Speed debuff. And since the ruleset has Close Range, Gem Meteor can be a very good Position 1 monster since it has 5 Speed already at early level, the chance to dodge physical attacks is quite high. One thing I really don't like is the randomness of Scattershot. It can make you win or lose the battle depending on what monsters it will target. But Gem Meteor with Scattershot can still be very useful when used with Yodin Zaku's Blast Ability. Currently, I don't have Yodin Zaku but I think that card is the most compatible with Gem Meteor and I would love to try that in my future battles.
