Good day, everyone! It's time again for another battle challenge from Splinterlands. If you would also like to participate, please make sure to check their post here - BATTLE MAGE SECRETS Weekly Challenge! The new challenge for this week is about the Aimless Ruleset. This is an interesting ruleset that if you used the right monsters, you can easily win the battle.

Ruleset: Aimless

Description: All monsters have the Scattershot ability.
Scattershot Ability: Ranged and Magic attacks hit a random enemy target. Scattershot can target Camouflaged monsters and is not influenced by Taunt.

We now have a rough idea of how this ruleset will be used in battle. Here are some tips from Splinterlands to give you more ideas or information that will be very useful in picking your monsters in this ruleset.

Notable Rulesets

Top 3 RulesetsBottom 3 Rulesets
Back to Basics - monster lose all abilities. A ruleset such as this is prime Conqueror Jacek territory. Throw off your opponent by targeting random monsters! This is especially impactful as they may front load their lineup with strong melee monsters, and leave the back line to low health ranged and magic attack monsters.Counterspell/Fire & Regret - Ensure that your monster can dish what they take out! Consider adding a layer of protection, or utilizing a monster with void to protect your monsters.
Aim True - All monsters have the True Strike ability. This ensures that all of your attacks will land!Broken Arrows/Lost Magic - Monsters with Ranged/Magic attacks cannot be used. This may limit the use case for scattershot.
Unprotected - all armor is removed from this ruleset. This makes your attacks all the more impactful, especially when ranged attacks are in play.Back to Basics - monsters lose all abilities. Consider whether your monster with scattershot should still be included in your lineup.

Notable Abilities

Top 3 AbilitiesBottom 3 Abilities
Camouflage- If your opponent plays a monster with camouflage, they may assume that they are immune to attacks. And they are, except for Scattershot, blast damage, and retaliatory attacks (retaliate, return fire, magic reflect, thorns)Blind - reduces the accuracy of ranged and melee attacks.
Swiftness - Increased speed may be just what your monster needs to attack first and remove the opposition.Phase - this ability allows magic attacks to be evaded
Blast - Scattershot and blast make a phenomenal pair, particularly when scattershot lands in the back line - damaging two adjacent monsters rather than one.Return Fire/Magic Reflect - Ensure that your monster can dish what they take out! Consider adding a layer of protection, or utilizing a monster with void to protect your monsters.

Battle Configuration

For this battle, aside from Aimless Ruleset, the other rulesets are Briar Patch: All Monsters have the Thorns ability and Heavy Hitters: All Monsters have the Knock Out ability. The maximum amount of mana that can be used is 49. The rulesets do not have any of the rulesets mentioned above in the Notable Rulesets mentioned. However, if we take a closer look, both sides would be choosing monsters with either Magic and/or Ranged attack to avoid the effect of Thorns ability. That leads to my line-up below in which the goal is to use Magic Attacks.

Position/RoleCardDescription
SummonerQuix The DeviousBecause the enemy is likely to use Ranged Attack Monsters, I used this summoner to make all enemy Ranged Attack Monsters have -1 Ranged Attack. It also reduces the speed of enemy monsters. When one of the rulesets is Aimless, speed is one of the most important factors in winning battles. Faster monsters will attack first to defeat the enemy, as stated in the Notable Abilities Section.
Position 1BaakjiraBaakjira, like Quix The Devious, has the ability to slow down enemies. After applying Baakjira's Slow, the enemy monsters will now have a -2 Speed. This monster is also a good tank thanks to its high HP of 12 and the Void ability. Because the enemy may use Magic Attacks, it's a good idea to reduce their damage on Baakjira.
Position 2Djinn OshannusLike Baakjira, Djinn Oshannus also has the Void ability in which will reduce the damage taken from Magic Attack. It also has the Phase ability that can make enemy monsters with Magic Attack miss. The Phase ability combined with Slow ability and -1 Speed is a good combination for Aimless Ruleset.
Position 3Nerissa TridawnNerissa Tridawn has no ability, however, it has 3 Magic Attack and 10 HP in which contributes to the total damage output of my lineup.
Position 4Angelic MandarinWhen the ruleset is Aimless, Angelic Mandarin's Triage ability will be quite helpful. There is a good probability that the monster will attack the one in the back because it will undoubtedly assault random opponents. The friendly back-line monster that has sustained the most damage will be healed by the Triage ability.
Position 5Chaos DragonMy major damage-dealer in this lineup is the Chaos Dragon. In addition to its 3 magic attacks, its speed, armor, and health are all balanced. This monster's Blast ability, which deals extra damage to monsters nearby the target monster, is what makes it my primary attacker.
Position 6Venari WavesmithThis is my support in this line-up because of its Protect ability that grants +2 Armor to all allied monsters. Since it also has Magic Attack, it will not be affected by Thorns ability.

Let's Battle

The enemy used a summoner that counters Magic Attacks. Grandmaster Rathe grants +1 Armor and Void Armor and Amplify abilities to its allied monster, perfect against Briar Patch Ruleset and Magic Attack monsters. The enemy also has a monster that has Slow ability and Protect and has Tank Heal also. I think this is fair fight because both sides really reconsiders the rulesets. In Round 1, you can see that even though the enemy Venari Crystalsmith is at Position 6, my monster still aimed it. That's the effect of Aimless Ruleset.

In this Round 2 snippet, you can see how Triage worked well in this ruleset. Since the enemy targeted Angelic Mandarin which was position at the back, it then healed itself.

image.png

In this Round 3 snippet, my monster attacked the enemy Time Mage, which was located at Position 4. This is good since my line-up are attacking monsters with support ability first.

image.png

In this Round 4 snippet, you can see that Chaos Dragon's Blast effect also inflicted damage to enemy Pelacor Arbalest aside from Venari Crystalsmith which is the primary target.

In this snippet from Round 5, Baakjira already left the field together with Venari Crystalsmith. But don't lose hope because Chaos Dragon's Blast is slowly eating away the HP of the opponent. Also, Arkemis the Bear has melee damage which will surely suffer from Thorns.

And in Round 6, Arkemis the Bear fell down due to Thorns ability and that makes me the winner of this battle. Here is the full replay in Splinterlands.

This was definitely a fun battle, and showcased the unpredictable attack pattern of monsters in this Aimless ruleset. We'll see you again the following week with a brand-new Battle Mage Secrets Weekly Challenge!
