Does Land Location Matter?

Does Land Location Matter?

Land is somewhat finally here at Splinterlands It's been a heavy two years if not longer since land was first able to be bought and since then it kind of just sat there in my inventory doing nothing.

I was lucky enough and maybe smart enough to focus down and lock in a few plots of land as well as a tract of land for $1,700 which now goes for a little over $8,000 and at the peak of the bull market was fetching nearly $100,000! Sure maybe I should have sold at that point but most likely it would have gone into a token like DEC or Hive and sat there and ended up falling just as much if not more during these hard hitting bear market days. That's now in the past and it's time to focus on the future of things.

Claiming Plots

We now have the ability to claim plots, tracts and Kingdoms on the map but there's not all that much too it yet. Personally I claimed two plots because I wanted to see how it was done and what kind of information we got out of it all.

We have a map which gives us an idea of how the land looks within Splinterlands seen here.

Claiming a deed show us what spot the deed is at but that's it. No other information such as building options, resources etc. This leads to a lot of questions such as if land positions on the map matter or not.

In a recent town hall it was said that plot placement will not matter. However without details I'm a little skeptical. For me personally I'm holding off a bit longer to claim at least my tract of land which I want somewhere near the middle of the map as like a hub if that should be the case for lands in the future.

What land Introduces

It does seem like land is going to introduce a vast amount of new tokens and items into the game. You'll have tokens for resources in the game such as Grain, Wood, Stone and Ore which will be used for production of buildings and so forth. There will also be magical elements such as Life, Death, Earth, Fire, Water, Dragon. That's 10 new tokens right there to be minted and traded from land as core base layer tokens. But there's also something called Essences in which you'll have a wild land to fight monsters to earn.

What isn't all that clear yet is that while you do mine these resources it also looks like they need to be refined as well, perhaps stored and then manufacturing of spells and items for the game.

That sounds like a rather vast amount of new tokens to manage and all of them will have constant sinks. For example buildings will constantly need resources which increases at higher levels to keep them online and running.

Last but not least land is also going to require from the sounds of it locking up cards to mine and work these lands thus putting the need for larger accounts to have a vast amount of maintenance, dec and cards to manage and produce on these lands. This in itself will create a base layer value to everything that is produced with lands.

Final Thoughts

I'm excited for what lands brings and it's still a bit unclear as to if location of plats matter. From the colors on the map it feels like it should matter being that each has a color which would be the magic of earth, fire, water etc. Thus can only those be mined in those plots that reside in those areas? While base resources like wood etc most likely will not matter its the magic I have a feeling that could matter. Plus if there is a transportation cost of moving resources from one location on the map to another could plat a huge effect in the game in terms of efficiency of your production.
