Neighbor's Wedding Party & A Short Story About The Neighbors

Yesterday my neighbor's daughter had a party. They got married in the groom's hometown last week. Usually, the wedding ceremony is held at the bride's house. That is why the mother of the daughter is having another party at her house.

This program is made to get money back because she has already entered many marriage parties. Every party in Cambodia, when we enter, we have to give money (we call it hand tie).

The party is in the evening, so the chef cooks the food during the day and prepares the day before. I went to help make some vegetables because the houses are close to each other.

Yesterday morning, I went to Pramaoy School to meet my children's teachers about relocating to a school near where I live. Because the school is too far, we have to drive more than an hour, and the school next to us is a little closer, we have to drive 30 to 40 minutes from our house, but it’s closer than the Pramaoy school.

While we were riding, my husband wanted to stop for something to drink, and we bought jackfruit and other fruits too. This jackfruit costs 2 dollars 50 cents, my husband loves it so much.

When I got home, it was raining so hard I wanted to do some work in the rain and get ready to party in the evening.

Are you wondering about these pictures? I went to the wedding and I wanted to take a picture with the bride and groom and the mother of the bride, who is my neighbor. I saw an old man standing in front of the wedding and I asked him to take a picture for us on my phone.

When I took the picture, I wondered why the man took the picture, he always turned the camera to me like he did not want to take pictures of the woman who was my neighbor. After taking pictures, I looked at the pictures on my phone and saw that my neighbors were not looking at the camera at all.

This also made me wonder who he was and quietly asked the bride who this man was and she replied that he was her dad. This short answer makes me understand why. If I knew that this guy was her dad, I would not let him take pictures of me and her mother because they were arguing and they hated each other, I heard a lot of information from my neighbors about her ex-husband, since the day I did not come to live here.

Yes, if I know I wouldn’t ask him to take the picture. They must feel uneasy.

It's just a big one day long party with everyone dressed properly! The man use suits... and the women dresses. We eat and drink all day long! And that's pretty much everything. At night they play popular music and those who are the drunkest will dance! 😆

The short story about marriage that you share this time, has a very deep meaning, from a father attending his son's wedding, while the father is no longer with the mother, from the bride, if I'm not mistaken I interpret the story that was written,

at that time maybe.... You almost made things worse, because you asked to take pictures from your cell phone, to the father, or to the ex-husband of the bride's mother, did you feel anxious when you heard the news...?

Oh yes, the way to prepare the materials at the wedding ceremony, is almost the same as at our place in Aceh..

one more thing apparently your husband really likes jackfruit, and why doesn't he like durian fruit....???

He said durians are stinky and jackfruit is smell good. for me I like durians better but they are more expensive than jackfruits. Have a great day.

hahaha.. such and interesting backstory to the photos.. So if I am not mistaken, the photographer is the bride's father? and he is currently still not in good terms with his wife? =) That is one big Jackfruit for only 2.5o USD is a good price and the fruit next to the Jackfruit.. super delicious.. =)

It's nice to see the community/village come together to help in preparations of an event. It's' so recognizable to some cultures in Suriname.

The wedding seems to be a communal affair. It is great that neighbors go and help with the cooking for the wedding dinner.

That is an interesting story. Nice to learn some more things about your country. I hope you can get your kids to go to the school that is nearer to your house, even though 30 to 40 minutes by car is still pretty far.

P.S. I really like your dress. Did you make it yourself?
